ok wow i thought your last post was bad enough, you think the typical v8's are inefficient chunks of iron, an *** engines are so efficient because they are smaller displacement, ok, thanks for playing again, you lose
its all about btu's, a v8 makes WAY more btu's then a *** motor, which means more energy. NOw, that can be used as effective, hence the many people that put 6spd's in their muscle cars with 600hp and manage to get 30mpg. *** motor dont make as many btu's, so they can run hard without worrying about being inefficient.
honestly, i can gear my big block 68 chevelle to get 50 miles per gallon, honestly its a fact, replace that 3.42 gear ratio with a 1 to 1 rear end, and it will pull it, and be VERY efficient, its just the fact nobody choses too, cause you dont get a fast car to get good gas mileage
EDIT: ok, going back your quote, america perfers to make power with bigger engines, because a mild engine makes power that way. A mild *** engine (im talking 8:1 CR .450 lift .200 adv dur) doesnt make squat. ok, to put things in prespective for you, imagine that nissan w/e engine that was twin turboed, against that same ford engine..... if it just had ONE turbo

Not that Skylines are the end all be all far from it, however up in Canada I had an R32 GT-R which cost me a mere 12k US Dollars. It was an incredibly easy to drive car that handled about as well as I ever dared push it. I've owned better handling cars like the MK1 MR2s (a bargin here in the US at around 1.5-3K) however it was a far less linear handling car, and something that is not very forgiving.
The R32 being an AWD platform and a fairly sophisticated one at that for its time and even today, made it fun and fairly safe to take to the limit without crashing into things or doing stupid stuff albeit fun like 180ing into a ditch :P
We have a 69 Mustang in the back, its just the Coupe with a 308 and fairly bland. Its still fairly fun to drive even though the power steering makes it so you feel completely detatched from the road, visibility is abysmal, and there is horrible body roll.
I guess at least here in the States Skylines are not really "rice" as getting a Skyline in the US is a costly endeavor, Canada its different as there import laws are more lax as long as the car is at a sufficient age. IIRC its 15 years. Pretty much anyone who has a Skyline here in the states is an enthusiast with alot of money on there hands as they are usually far from being a bargin here.
I guess I've been rambling a bit here, but for me Skylines, MK1/MK2 MR2s, FC/FD RX-7s, IS300s, J30s, etc etc, represent a complete package of automible that I generally find lacking in most (certainly not all), American automobiles, perhaps its also because I'm asian myself. I do a bit of Autocrossing, and generally just like to blast down back country roads, I get a kick out of raw acceleration but its pretty one dimensional. Alot of the cars I owned were lucky to get 0-60 in 8 seconds but that was still plenty for me if it handled like a Go-Kart.
I'm not about to argue the superiority of Japanese engines compared to American especially in HP... thats pretty silly :P
For below Eh I'm basically saying that Japanese engines are not really superior to American ones perhaps its not conveyed in the most clear manor.
Basically I'm agreeing that most Japanese engines do not have the same room for easy performance, like for instance the 4AGE in my MR2, a great engine to be sure, but certainly not something that has alot of growth potential, without an unholy amount of money thrown at it for mearly modest gains.
Whereas you can take say a Duratec and make a wickedly powerful engine with ease, that will be pretty much as bulletproof reliable as anything else out there.

i love that kevin guy talking up his evo and saying if he dropped a gt42r turbo kit in it it'd be around 900 horsepower.....
i'll bet anyone on this forum he doesnt have the about $7300 the complete kit costs to dump into his evo....

well i can tell you is, american cars werent built to please you. American cars are built to make higher hp without much engine work. Typically they arent built to handle great, since 97% of racing done to a street car is in a straight line. They are built to give that heavy feeling in your stomach when you floor it in first, and make you beliee the front wheels might lift off the ground. If thats not what your after, then maybe *** cars are for you, its all preference,
dont go comparing the "superiority" of american engineering vs. *** engineering, im a mechanic every summer and ive worked on and driven more cars in the past 3 summers then you will sit in your entire life, that is one can of worms you dont wanna open with me

dont forget, every time you support a japanese car manufacturer, you indirectly support the economy of the country that bombed pearl harbor. why i will never own an imported car.

hey, 430 torque would pull that ratio, it seriously would, would do 0-60 in 12 seconds (just like the other cars in the world that get 40 mpg.)

well thats your own fault
|
comparing a camry rto a z06? yea not even close to the same category, the camry is an economy car, not a sports car
i dunno about you, but i'd rather buy a 4cyl unnamed *** car, put about 3-4K in it, and run 11's all day long, WHILE GETTING 30+ MPG
and *** motors having no TQ, i dunno, mine makes 300TQ STOCK, pretty good for a 2.5
now put that z06 up against something else and you have a diff story

hi, yea the prius(105HP) hybrid will do 0-60 in way less than 12 seconds, and it gets way more the 40mpg, facts not fiction

yes they are inefficient, i work with them all day long, and ya know what, when all the "fast" domestic guys see my car sitting outside, they all come up to me and say dam man, i raced one of those...dam fast cars
most of them ask me what they have in them cause just last week one smoked them badly
it all comes down to tolerances in the motors, which the american motors dont have, their standards are less when they make them to keep cost down
i've been on both sides of the spectrum, a lot of my friends have fast muscle cars, but they've all put a LOT of money in theirs, I work at the biggest performance shop in my area, and they do mostly muscle cars
and i've sold toyota's for 2.5+ years, know just about everything you can know about them for the most part
