My mom always knew places like that were shady. Glad she made me do it all.

Someone told he a trick to making sure they actually change you oil, is when they have you restard the engine, you watch your oil pressure gauge, for about 5 seconds after you start it, it should be all the way down, then come up slowly. If it hadnt moved from where it was before you went there, they prolly didnt change it.

My friend was telling me about how his mom got her car oil changed at the Walmart Jiffy Lube. He said he checked the dipstick a few hours later and the oil was still black. They took it back and demanded for them to actually change it. They said the oil turns like that after you drive a few miles on it.

haha noo, effing liars.
Oil shouldnt ever turn black, when it gets close to black is when your supposed to change it, which is an average of 3000 miles. If u had the oil changed, the dipstick should have some nice gold oil on it for 500 miles at the least.
theres ALOT i can warn you guys about, ive heard them all. I work at one of the few honest garages and know of the others in my area, but wow does my dad know some horror stories.
first, heres some things to look out for if u get ur car worked on
basically, its not the fact they are too cheap to buy the part to install it, its the fact that its too much work and they are lazy.
#1 if you have a v8 or v6 FWD, if you get a tune up, and you got charged less then $100, then there is a very VERY good chance you still have the factory plugs in the cylinders toward the firewall
#2 like they said, fuel filter, usually those being old dont cause a problem, and you wont notice a problem unless it starts getting clogged, in which case u can bring it to get changed because u feel like u have half the power. ANd most people dont even see their own filter, so they wont know the difference. Biggest reasons some mechanics chose to not change them: they dont want to get gas on their hands, and some of those filters are a ***** to get off
#3 any tranny service. Doing something like changing tranny fluid wont help a slipping tranny. In my experience changing the fluid only makes things worse. know why most garages wont do this one? theres no drain plug, so it gets messy. And unscrewing those tranny lines are a *****
#4 oil change, i dont know why the hell they would not do that, its so simple, but the lazy ones will not change the oil filter.
and dooms who r u kidding? we all know you change your oil with a credit card

Nah, I've been changing the oil on all our trucks and equipment for years. My father used to make me do it so he wouldn't have to climb underneath.

i got my transmission flushed by a small shop around here... only reason i know they changed it is because it wouldnt grind while i was shifting into second gear anymore... my fill plug is a ***** tho.. that's why i had them do it :-P the fill plug is on the very top of the transmission, about an inch and a half below the body of my car.. lol

And my mom made fun of me and my dad for buying all the tools we have in the past. Hell, my toolbox is worth over 2 grand. Its stuff though I'll always use.

Lol I know that. The ONLY time I've taken my car in to get my oil changed was when a car dealership/service place was having a special for 9.99. That's cheaper than buying the actual oil and filter. I figured hey, they have about 20 corvettes sititng on the lot, I'm sure I could trust them with my Honda. Watched TV on the big screen and played pool with an employee for about 35 minutes and walla.
But otherwise, I do it myself. It's so freaking easy.
