2007 Dodge Charger R/T AWD
A friend of mine works for a Dodge dealer and could get me a good deal on one of these. Since the Trailblazer SS is proving to be a tough one to find, after seeing one of these I'm thinking it might be the way to go. Four doors, five seats, better highway mileage than both the SS and my V6 Tribute, AWD, comfortable size, basically everything I need. The only thing it doesn't have is the ground clearance and towing capacity of an SUV, but I guess I could always steal the Suburban when I need a truck.
So, I wanted to get your guys opinions. What do you think of the Charger? I'm a bit leary of dodge's transmissions and wiring, but from what I've heard the Charger has been pretty good. I guess they are pretty safe as well since cops are starting to use them as police cars. Any thoughts? Yay or nay?
I'm not really a Dodge guy, but there is very little selection out there for what I'm looking for, and it's definately time for a new vehicle.

I'd still hold out for an SUV. A car, awd or 4wd, will never do as good in the snow as a jeep or SUV or truck. Granted, unless you are rallying across open fields, then a scooby will be nice, but you know what I'm talking about.

Their are 2 chargers around here that are used for police cars. I definitely love them. Had a chance to drive one as well as some people on my firedepartment. One of the guys got it up to 135 and almost crapped his pants.(it was fine tuned before the cops got it). He wouldnt go any faster because he was scared.
I like them, I personally would take it over a SUV, but thats just because im a car guy. And have a f150.

when i first saw this thread i was gonna say that there are like 2 cop cars out here that are chargers, pretty cool. I doubt many people would try to run away from a charger haha....
As far as your dilemma, yeah I would wait until you find something you really like, not something you "will settle with".

lol, No love for the Charger?
The one thing that's really making me like the Charger is the gas mileage and the fact that I would be able to afford a brand new one instead of a trade-in.
I don't know, a buddy of mine has a Charger Daytona, so I'll take that for a ride either this weekend or the weekend after and see if I like it or not.
If anyone else knows of any vehicles under $35,000 that have AWD, can do a 14 sec or better quarter mile, get atleast 18mpg highway, and are a comfortable five seater (not a shoe box like a WRX or Evo ) let me know, I'm open to suggestions.

GTO?
I would say a ford five hundred, but its an old mans car. But it has everything you wanted except a good quarter mile time.
edit- First I was going to say a WRX, but then I read what you said again.

There is just very little out there in the way of performance AWD vehicles under $40,000 unless your looking at a WRX or Evo, but they are just too small for me, I already have a small performance car, I need a comfortable driver when I do my 260 mile trek every other weekend.
As to the mileage of the Charger, from what I've been reading most guys are getting 19-21 highway doing 80, compared to 16-18 from the SS, and 19-21 from my Tribute. Apparently that MDS thing where it shuts down half the cylinders works pretty good at increasing highway mileage, though in city traffic it doesn't seem to help much.

Nah, all they offer in AWD is that little shoebox 9-2 and the 9-7 SUV which is too expensive and on the slow side.
Edit: I did a poll on PBN, let's see how long that takes before it turns into an all out war.
