Yea, but then you lose the warrenty. The nice thing about that Roush kit is, even though you're paying a lot (well, not really, $10,000), you're getting 700hp with a factory warrenty. You can't get that anywhere else unless you buy a new 700hp car (which your not going to find even at GT500+markup+Roush kit price).
That's simply incredable.

Yeh, I didnt even think about the warranty. I'm pretty sure I could live with 700 HP...at least for awhile.

First off, I'm not a big fan of mustangs or Ford in general. I'm probably gonna seem like a hater but I really don't care, I'll post my opinion anyway. Here we go:
700 HP or not, that car still weighs a ****load. Cut about 400-450lbs off the car and THEN that 700 HP will really shine. It'd be badass without the wieght reduction, but it would help that car a lot.
I still can't figure out how their CAI adds 45 hp to the car. That's a bit much. I'd think it would add more like 20 horsepower, or maybe 30 because the car has so much power from the factory.
Also, ROUSHcharger? WTF? It's just a roots type supercharger. Why does he need his name on it? You could buy a cheaper kit online and probably get better results. Or you could turbo the car and see some insane power from it.
Again on the S/C: Why don't they let you have a removable pulley on the 115 HP kit? I'd hate to buy a $6.5k kit and not be able to upgrade it later on. They could have just as easily made the pulley removable and put in a statement that says that changing the pulley will void the warranty and they aren't responsible.
You guys are praising the 200 HP kit for not voiding the warranty. However:
"For those living on the wild side, a non-warranty version will also be offered for off-road use, and this version is anticipated to push the GT500 engine to a mind-boggling 700 horsepower, 200 more than the stock engine. Customers will have to purchase a 72mm or 76mm pulley separately, and this version does not include an upgraded calibration. Other modifications may be necessary in order to maximize the horsepower gains."
You failed to miss that the 200 HP kit will, in fact, void the warranty. Oops.
The GT500 does not come with a true 500 HP. I vaugely remember one of my friends telling me that they dyno'd a prototype and it made like 425 HP at the wheels. That means that the 200 HP kit will more than likely put the car near 600-625 HP range. Not accounting for a good tune and supporting bolt-ons (which WILL be needed).
The kit doesn't seem very cost effective. If you can imagine the cost of the kit (probably $6.5k or more for the 200 HP version) along with the supporting bolt-ons that WILL be needed (somewhere around $1200) and a tune ($500 or more), then the kit is a VERY expensive 200 HP option. Personally, with the money that Roush requires, I'd go with a good size turbo, an intercooler, bolt-ons, a tune, and some weight reduction. I'm almost positive that you'd see better results from a well-balanced turbo kit than Roush's kit. Especially if the engine is like the one in 03 Cobras.
Anyway, I'm done. Have fun. (I know you will)

It weighs basically the same as a BMW M6 or Mercedes CLK 63 AMG, the only other factory 500hp four seaters out there. Yet, they cost twice as much, but I don't hear people complaining about their weight. The GT500 is pretty much on par weight wise.

It's the tune that really does it, the car comes extremely rich from the factory. The engine is extremely detuned, Ford did this on purpose so it wouldn't get to close to the 550hp rating of the Ford GT (which is actually closer to 600hp).

Not sure, I guess it's for warranty reasons. Still, 615hp with a warranty for less than $50,000 is still amazing.

The car has a break in period. It takes a while before the computer will allow the full hp, which from what I've seen is slightly over 500 crank, though not as underrated as the 4.6L Cobra engine (which I've never seen one dyno less than 405 crank hp). Temperature plays a big role as well, the cooler it is outside the higher a Cobra engine will dyno.

First, how do you know what the supporting mods are? It could just be a new MAF, injectors, and the tune, which definitely wouldn't be $1700 total.
Of course you would get more HP with a turbo (though you don't get the low end torque of a blower and the ease of installation, which is why most Cobra guys use a Kenne Bell blower for big boost) However, you still don't get a warranty either. The point is you are getting a 100+hp boost over stock with a warranty. I would pay extra for that and I know a lot of other Cobra owners who would as well. Think about it, if you can buy a Cobra for MSRP and add the kit you are at at least 600hp for $50,000 or less with a warranty, while still being able to drive you and three friends around. You can't do that with a Vette (even the Z06) or Viper. Throw a set of 4.10's in there (which usually doesn't hurt your warranty) and you will scare those guys in their $80,000 cars.

If I'm not mistaken. This car weighs over 4200 lbs. Correct? That is a ****load of wieght for a two door coupe. The car is beastly, yes, but it's also a fatass. I'm just saying that if the car weighed about 400lbs less, it would be a whole new car.

I see your point with a tune, but it still seems a little overrated. Every bolt-on that is put on the car will show gains, but will benefit from a tune. Even Corvettes don't see those kinds of results from even the best intakes. One of three things is true: 1) That's a helluva intake and tune, 2) Ford REALLY detuned the car (as you said), or 3) Roush is overrating the HP to make it seem more appealing (as many companies do).

All cars have a break in period, that's given. However, I was talking about RWHP, not crank HP. Crank HP is always higher because the power hasn't gone through the drivetrain. After drivetrain loss, the car has somewhere around 425-450 HP. The transmission also has an effect on the HP rating. Anyway, when it comes down to it, RWHP matters, not crank.

Supporting mods are things like headers, x-pipes, cat-backs, intake manifolds, fuel lines, injectors, PCMs (or tunes), Underdrive pullies, and throttle bodies. Almost all these items would be necessary for the car to make the 200 HP advertised. They could easily total well over 2 grand depending on manufactures. See where I'm coming from?
No matter what you or I say, we'll never be in complete agreement. I like Chevy/Pontiac more than Ford. You like Ford over other manufacturers. It's an age old battle that will almost never end. I'm not flaming the car. It's a good car, but I see some flaws in it. That doesn't mean that Chevy is perfect, but I tend to side with them more.
There is ONE thing that Ford has always done better than Chevy. The sound of their cars. There is NOTHING like hearing an 03 Cobra w/ exhaust mods start up or go WOT. Chevy has yet to make a better sounding car than Ford. I drool when I hear a well-sounding Mustang/Cobra roll by. They just sound so sweet. I'm sure the GT500 will be the same.
This little debate we have going on is fun. Let's keep it going.

3920lbs, only 150lbs more than the BMW M6, which uses carbon fiber to reduce weight, and it actually weighs less than the Mercedes CLK63 AMG coupe which is a smaller car in every dimension. Those are the only other cars out there like the GT500 (four seats, 500hp, two doors). So really, the GT500 is on par weight wise with every other similar car out there. You don't see people complaining the M6 or CLK63 is a pig. They just complain the GT500 weighs more because it weighs more than the '03/'04 Terminator, which makes sense since it's a bigger car in every dimension.

Nope, it's not over-rated. Another guy got a 60hp increase with a safe tune and intake. http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=660228 The GT500s are simply that detuned from the factory. This is because of the new SAE dyno testing. They can't let the cars outof the factory as underrated as the terminators because they can't fudge the numbers anymore (saying it only makes 390hp when it makes over 400), so they have to hide that power elsewhere, but it's still readily available with a simple tune and intake.

No, the Shelby has a computer programmed break in period. The computer wont let the car advance its full timing and throttle until it has a few thousand miles under its belt. Similar to what Lotus did with the Elise. It also kills power and lets it back slowly if you do any modifications (like a pulley) as a saftey measure so you don't blow the engine.
Of course crank hp will be higher then RWHP. You said the GT500 doesn't make a true 500hp, which is wrong. It does, it makes 500 crank hp, just like the Corvette Z06 and Viper (well, 505 and 510 respectively). No manufacture rates their car in RWHP. Roush says their kit is good for 700hp, that's crank HP. In RWHP it would be about 610rwhp, but again, neither Roush or Ford mentions RWHP.

Yes, those are all considered supporting mods, but Roush doesn't say anywhere that the car needs all of them. Most people are saying all it may need is a MAF, Injectors, and a Tune to make the advertised 200hp. The Cobra exhaust is already extremely well flowing with a factory x-pipe, it wont need an intake manifold, it wont need underdrive pullies, and the throttle body is out of Fords 6.8L V10 truck engine (which already flows more than the 5.4L needs) so it wont need that either. That's just what I know, it may need even less.

No, that's curb weight. Fluids, but no driver.
