RB's new car, Eclipse or Camaro?
Well, Ive had my s-10 since about march, and im starting to get the itch for a new car.
Ive got it narrowed down to
90-94 Mistu Eclipse GSX/GST
or
94+ Chevy Camaro.
The upside of both...
Eclipse- Could end up being a quicker all around car, I really want the AWD for traction and winter purposes, and noone around here really mods first gens. Turbo+AWD+4 wheel discs=good. Gas Milage.
Camaro-RWD is obviously superior to FWD, and I really want RWD for purposes of powersliding, pretend drifting, and other fun things. Outright power, and the rumble of a larger engine period. Looking for a 94-95ish z-28.
Downsides of both...
Eclipse- Obviously with AWD and turbo, more to go wrong. And with GSX's being somewhat more rare and expencive, my budget could keep me to a gst. Really dont want one with high milage, because things start going bad in a big way.
Camaro- Budget could keep me to a v-6, also to save $$ on insurance. One of my close g/f's has a 94 v6 camaro with a warmed over engine and pipes/intake and some other stuff. Plenty quick enough for me. Gas and nebraska winters could also force me to get a beater for winter.
Either way, the car wont be left stock. Mods will be simple though. Wheels/tires, exhaust and minor engine work. Just enough to keep me happy and quick enough to stomp my friends honda rockets.
My budget for purchasing is about 2-3G's + whatever I cna get for my '98 s-10.
Opinions, suggestions, and other things I welcome!
NOT A IMPORT DOMESTIC FLAMING WAR. I WILL BE PISSED IF IT TURNS INTO ONE

I say buy a 2g GS with a blow motor and buy a 6-bolt to swap into. Keep the S-10 as your DD while you work on all this. Once you get the eclipse running, sell the S-10 and use all that money for parts.
Your insurance will be cheaper on a GS plus you can pretty do whatever you want. 2g looks better but it will have the 1g performance/reliability and better parts.
But if you're set on an AWD, go for it. AWD 1gs can be found cheap, but it will need a little bit of work.
Hell if you don't mind a FWD, theres a 91 with 160k miles needs a new oil return line I believe for like $1000 OBO. I'd be willing to help you transport it since Omaha isn't a far drive at all.

Well anything you find on that site, I'll help you transport if needed.
Theres always a good deal up on there. Right now I'm seeing like 3 AWD 2g Talons and GSXs going for 5-6k with low mileage.

so when u say camaro i think assume your talking lt1 camaro?
when it comes to decision time, only consider camaro if it has around 300hp, more would be good , but under 300hp in a camaro isnt amazing.

Two totally different cars. Import vs domestic. Personally, I'd go domestic.

I know there two totally different cars, and thats why im having such a hard decision.
Pat-I dont want or need 300hp. I just want a nicer car than I have, and something I can wrench on for a while. Im on a limited budget. All I need to do is have enough hp to smoke the local honda crowd, which im already doing with my s-10. :nododgy:

1993-1997 camaros had 275 power, and went to 305hp in 1998 i think, i guess thats the year they went to lt1 over tpi
ive been in camaros with L98 tpi's, and i gotta say they have an impressive amount of torque that will twist the frame, and with that 2.73 rear u can just leave it in 1st gear from 1-50mph. the one i was in was a 14.6 second car stock
just to get ur blood flowin

Well most of my mods will to give her a meaner sound. Intake/exhaust, and some things to help the engine breathe a little deeper. Im deff. going to be getting a 93-95 with moderatly high miles, and spending any extra cash on mods.

They went to 325hp in 98. 93-97 were ALL LT1. 98 is when they went to LS1.
C'mon Pat I thought you were a chevy guy!

Be weary of the GSX's. My friend has one, it breaks down every other week almost. He's dumped so much money into it, it's ridiculous.

Well the LS1 maro's, all 98 and up had the newer body style. Completely redesigned front end with the more rounded headlights rather than the little square ones. 93-02 were all 4th gen but there was an "early" 4th gen with the LT1 and uglier front end then the "late" 4th gen with the redesigned front end and the LS1.

RB, can I make a suggestion?
Get the lowest mile-age one you can afford. Then save up for things to do to it. You want it to run as long as possible. Trust me, then you'll appreceiate the work you put into it after you save up even more.

cool thing about the camaro is that it is very cheap to make fast thanks to that small block chevy.
if u buy a LT1 car for 3000, and put 2000 into the engine you will be able to hit 13.0et's all day

?
if you buy a 3000$ LT1 car that has 300hp stock..... and spend 2000$ to put heads/cam in it, you can tap as little as 350hp or as much as 450hp depending on your demands,
one thing i know is my small block chevys, ive been building them since i was 10.
if you want i could find some links to 3000$ maro's with 300hp, and links to heads (1000-1300$) and to a cam (100-300$) but i have an exam at 8:40 and i have to commute all the way to rutgers in the mornng, so im going to bed, if im bored i'll do it tomorrow
