Talking sense into someone is really pointless. Life lessons are what will do the trick. Hopefully in time before you get killed or get in financial troubles.

I think plenty of you guys are over reacting/have never driven on the highway. Doing 80 instead of 65 wont change anything on the highway. If you lose control of your car, you will be in trouble no matter what speed your going.
Like a few people have said here, drive 65 in jersey and you'll start some serious road rage. 80mph is more like standard. I have done 90 on 295 north and been following traffic. Not one guy, all of traffic. Even the right lane was moving smooth at 85.
Just don't speed on winding roads in the rain at night. Otherwise, your good. And keep it to ~15 over the speed limit.
No, I have never got a ticket and I have been driving for 2 years. Its just the way NJ rolls.

it all comes down to what I said at the start. drive with the flow of traffic.

use CRUISE CONTROL
and radar detectors are pretty much useless in most cases. if a cop is using his radar right, by the time you hit the brakes he's already locked in your speed. cops are supposed to visually estimate your speed, then verify it with the radar gun. so that means he sees you speeding, estimates 80mph, points the gun at you and locks in your speed at 83 and THEN you start hitting the brakes. the ONLY way it would help you would be if it picked up some stray radar bouncing off of the traffic around you.
basically the only way to stop speeding is....well, stop speeding! it's really not that hard. just keep up with the flow of traffic, drive in the middle lane(s) rather than the fast lane, and just set your cruise control. not that hard

yeah i have been told that i drive like a grandma. not because of some past experience or whatever, it's just how i choose to drive. I'll normally go 5ish over, maybe more on the highway to keep with the flow, but i'd rather be a few minutes later to my destination (as long as i'm not late) rather than a few minutes late and have a ticket.

On highways, just keep up with traffic. When I am making long journies, I usually end up going 15 over or so, but I keep with traffic so no one really notices.
On normal roads, get up to the speed limit or 5 over or whatever, and cruise control it.
