Budget Project car...
Well, I have been wanting to build a decent car/truck for a while. I either want to do a car or truck, but if I go truck I know what I am doing. For car though, that is a different story. I have been thinking a 240sx with a sr20DET. Of course I'd get one without the engine and fix it up and prep it, then drop in the engine. Length of build is probably 2 years, since I am in college.
Any ideas or suggestions? Keep the ricer hate out.

Aaron - Helped a friend for 2 months to do the body work on his dad's 69 camaro. I think my arms are still healing from the burns from the welds.

yea muscle cars are alot of work when restorin the body. Just cause theyve been around for so long, the moisture of air gets to them. I spent........ probably 1.5 years welding new sheet metal on my chevelle.
If your gonna do import, i say keep it nissan/datsun, and something with a straight 6, and RWD, and u could build a nice lil car.
if ur doing a truck, v8 s-10's are awesome and not much work to do at all

Rick(pat, you sneaky sumofa*****),
I have been researchin for a few hours, instead of writing a paper - ha. I am seriously considering a sr20det swap into a 93+ 240sx. I wanna keep it newish car since then it'll be less miles/wear and rust. I have found a few drop in kits, it should shape up nicely. I need to get a job though and get some cash.

My friend wrecked his Z28. If he decides to part out, I can talk to him about selling you the LS1 and drivetrain.
240 would be a good choice. They are easy to work on. Friend of mine at school has one and I helped them change a clutch. We got it done in about 5 hours and that included a run back to town and to O'Reileys.
They put a new motor in it in 3 days too. He paid $400 for it with a blown motor. Another friend of mine had one he also paid $400 for and it was in great running shape but he sold it because insurance would be too high.
Everyone does sr20det swaps though... IMO, build a ka240de and boost the **** out of it. If you find one running with not many miles on the engine I say you do that, otherwise if you find one not running, go for the sr20det swap.
Only other car I'd suggest is a Foxbody.

Uhm why?
What's wrong with a fox? They can be decent cars. I'm a chevy guy by far but I like the Foxbody for some reason.

Pierced - Sold it. I needed a car good on gas for college. I can't be drivin 300 miles a week on 14mpg. My Nissan Sentra GXE gets 45mpg on a windy day. If I still had the blazer, it'd be up in the sky by now.

Ricky- I would want to put a 6, but the SR20DET bolts right up no problemo. BTW, SR20DET stands for : SR ( Series Model ), 2.0 ( Liters... ha), D ( Dual Overhead Cam ), E ( Electronic Fuel Injected ), T ( Turbo ). Plus, from what I have been reading, the SR20DET built up can hit 400 HP for relatively cheap, but that's about the max of the bottom end of the engine. I really just want a car to strip the engine and tranny, and while saving for the new engine to throw in it re-do the interior. Then by the time I have enough money for the Engine to drop in, I'll have everything prepped, along with having the interior pimp. Then I'll drop the engine, save up and make sure everythings runnin right, set up the suspension nice, then save to start workin the engine. Hopefully I can get it completely done in 5 years.
