bike
so i think i'm going to get a kawasaki ninja 250r.. i had some fun playing around with a friends 650r, and it really threw me into a bike mood.. i have a ****ty day/winter vehicle, so that's not a problem, and a 250r is pretty affordable (brand new, $3000)... i'm pretty excited.. i think the only problem is gonna be getting my parents to be okay with it, but either way, i really wanna get a bike now.. lol

that'll be nice, but what i've heard from a lot of bike owners, is that you'll want bigger than a 250 after a while. Granted it'll be a great bike to learn on, but after a while (which usually isnt a long while from what I hear) you're gonna want a bike with some more "umph".

Yeah from what I've seen, most people say just bump up to the Ninja 500 for a starter bike. It has some power, but not until the higher rpms, and it comes on pretty smoothly.
I wish I could get a bike... A couple days ago I was on a mountain cruise with some guys in a car club I'm in, and a guy laid his bike down and ran into a tree (roads were wet). He was okay, so he must not have been going too fast. That was a real wake-up call though.
I still want one for those warm summer days so I could go on a cruise.

Buy the 250, you will be able to learn how to ride instead of learn how not to die. Yes it is true you will outgrow it very quickly, but the resale on those bikes is so high that if you buy a used one at a decent deal, chances are you lose little to nothing when you sell it again.

so after going to the bike shop near me, and taking a look at a couple of different bikes, i think i'm going to jump up to the kawi ninja 650r... it's only a paralell twin, so that kind of keeps the massive power down, and it has a slightly lower redline than the 250.. i'm pretty comfortable with my friends 650r, so i think i'm gonna really enjoy this bike..
i like the blue, but i'm thinking i'm gonna get mine in red..

im thinking of getting a hyosung/united motors GT250R as well, main issue with me is money, with college, having no credit, and my health insurance skyrocketing when i turn 18 in june then that much more if i buy a bike, and i have to convince the rents to co-sign upon purchase so i can establish credit AND my mom lives about an hour and a half away and long distance freeway traveling tends to stress the 250's engines more (if you keep a consistant speed around 80mph) and i will also be sacraficing my car which means when the weather turns to **** im on my own. idk how old you are but if youre around 17/18 def some things to consider, each family is different though (financially).
EDIT: sorrry about the worlds longest sentence ever, but whatever.

haha yeah, i'm 19, not in school yet, have a decent job, and a cosigner, so i'm set on things there.. i have the money for the bike, and insurance on my jeep (****ty weather vehicle) i'll be eligible for health insurance through work in a week or so.. i'm pretty financially independent from my rents, and i would be the one paying every penny on the bike.. so it'd definitely be something i'm proud of

Get a used older 600. Like a carbuerated one. They are pretty sluggish compared to the newer fuel injected bikes. Plus they look so much better and sound better then 250Rs and you won't outgrow it so quickly.
You could start out on anything and become a good rider. It's just recommended not to surpass a 600 for a starter bike. My friend bought a Triumph 1000 for his first bike and he hasn't had any problems except for dropping it when he was doing a burnout..

yeah, i'm not doing the ninja 250r nemore (you mighta missed it) i'm going with the ninja 650r.. definitely gonna go with the blue one, and i've already taken my friends '06 650r out for a couple rides, and i like it a lot.. plenty of power for me, yet not so much that it scares me to ride it.. the paralell twin keeps the ponies down a bit, so it's not ungodly fast, only thing i dont like is it sounds more like a harley than the 4 cylinder bike whine..
pics will definitely be up the day i bring her home (if i can keep myself home for long enough.. lol) i really cant wait.
