vr6 or 1.8t?
Well I have about 1500 put away so that plus the 5k I should be able to get out of my golf gives me around 6500 to play with. I'm not planning on getting a GTI til next winter which gives me about 2000 more giving me around 8500. Anyways heres my question
As you should know the GTI comes in 2.0 **** that.
1.8t and vr6. Which i can't decide between.
Vr6 is around 175hp stock
1.8t is around 150.
Heres the difference. Tuned and chipped a 1.8 can put out around 200 stock.
Either way the car will be recieving a turboback or catback exhaust.
Now if I get the vr6 I'll be getting a Neuspeed p-flow.
If i get the 1.8t like stated I'll chip and tune it and buy a boost gauge. The stock turbo can put out around 15 psi without running into any problems.
Another issue I might run into is wanting to upgrade to a FMI rather than the stock side mounted.
Discuss.
heres what i dont want to here. "go with the faster car stock meh meh meh" because it will be modded either way. and i dont want to hear to go with another car, I want a gti.

My friend played with that car one night. He completely ****ed with us, we put about a bus length on him then he just downshifted and punched it. Got next to us and pedaled it then took off. God**** that thing is ****ing fast.
IMO, follow his footsteps.

Go with the vr6. It has two more cylinders. The car will gain more from the mods that you put on it. And if you want to have the turbo you are going to have to get gauges and make sure you are very nice to that car. If you want to run 15 psi all the time (which you might not) you had better watch your internals. Getting your car fixed will not be cheap.

I'm planning on running 8psi most of the time. and 15 if i plan on taking it down to the track. and what brings me back to the issue of the 4 or 6 is. The 1.8 will gain alot more HP from simple mods, and most of the 1.8's I'm looking at have indash gauges put in above the radio and below the cup holders to get rid of the common a-pillar guage.
I drove my buddies vr6 yesterday and it was sick but I want to drive a 1.8 sometime soon as well.

He's agreeing with RB, saying there is no replacement for a bigger engine.

looks like the question is are you willing to spend the money to go beyond simple mods? If you just want to do a few quick things and get results then the 1.8 sounds like your car.

I'm looking to do a few quick mods and have a good daily driver but a fast car for the weekends on the track. My buddy has Vag-com so i'm not worried about tuning expenses. And the more research i've done I'm leaning closer to the 1.8

Just sell your car and get a 1.8t.
Or get a DSM. Cheaper to mod and faster.

I'd go vr6. Plus, then if you really get into it and want to go for it, throw a supercharger or turbo on the 6 and it'll blow away any worked 1.8t. The extra cylinders will do it up for you in the long run.

Well i found a 02 Black GTI with staggered 17inche 7 spokes, a Turbo-back, 76k on the clock, boost gauge, and modified stock air box (which shows more power increases then a Cold air. A new DV, and its a 1.8. I'm gonna go test drive it sometime within the next month and hope it stays for 4 months, which it probably wont. But being that it has just about everything i want to do minus being chipped it will give me a good idea of how it will drive.
