blow off valve
so, the first engine-related upgrade i would like to give to my GTI is a new BOV. i did some research on the different kinds and how they sound and stuff... i like the HKS SSQV... i definitely would not buy the name brand, i would get a knock-off on eBay for like $35.
but my question to you all is, how difficult is the installation of these badboys? any chance something could go wrong and cause me to have to spend additional money? do you all have BOVs that you would reccomend?
oh yeah, and do you need to buy anything other than the actual BOV to install?

Do more research. Unless you are pushing high boost, you don't need a BOV, and if you are pushing high boost, you should get a recirc kit for the BOV. With just a BOV, your engine runs rich during shifts.
Not to mention an eBay BOV is good for one thing: "HEY! LOOK AT ME!"

I'd go for something like exhaust, chip or ECU reprogram, maybe a new intercooler or bigger injectors...Something like that.
Currently, my Z has BOVs (not due to choice). I am replacing them this Spring with the stock recirculation units. And I'm running 16-17psi. I don't know what you're running, but I would guess it is the same or lower than me.

YouTube - blow off valve duck call
You should put that on your car if you really insist on a bov.

What a shame, I just sold a TurboXS Type RFL BOV.
I've got one off a 1st Gen Talon. Has the adapter pipe as well and probably sounds better then you're stock one.

don't think so. I've used them before, and so have other locals with no problems. I have the SSQV knock-off on the hatch and it does just fine.
You really don't need a bov, other than for sound really. To me, if you have a turbo car, then its really a useless mod, almost ricey if you will, when you should be buying parts to free up extra horsepower.

He has a 5spd GTi. When I get a car, and it is standard, I am getting a BOV (if it is bad ass enough). I wouldn't be putting it on a '95 civic sedan or something like that.

If you really want a BOV that badly, I have two RFL BOVs that will suite you perfectly. Sell the other and make some money back. I won't be able to get them off the Z for another month (or whenever the weather stops sucking), but I'd be willing to let them go at a decent price.
And if you like the noise, then you'll love these. One guess as to what 'RFL' stands for...

really ****ing loud.
i just recently discovered that my car has cool air-intake which presumably adds about 15 hp? i'm not really looking to make the car go any faster at the moment.
i do however, really like the sound. so any info about whether or not i will need additional parts to install the BOV if i were to buy one?
