Found a cheap Supra
Okay my sister's boyfriend, who is 23 years old, knows jack**** about cars. Well he needed new parts on his sunfire so I agreed to take him out and look for the parts and install them for him.
So we go to this junkyard. I sorta know the guy so it was all cool. As we're walking around i see this Toyota Supra. The body is in very rough shape, missing head and tail lights, and most the windows were busted. Tires, interior, electronics, etc. were in decent to excellent shape. So I'm talking to the owner about it and he gets me the keys. To my suprise it starts up very easily. Since it was out in the good ol' country, he allowed me to take it for a spin. It drove pretty nice but I didn't want to push it considering it's under salvage.
After 15 minutes of driving it, I just wish I could buy it.
But some good news... he said he's selling it for 1750. He told me if I put a 1000 dollar deposit on it that he would hold it for me. So now all I got to do is get 300 more and try to convince my parents.
It's also a 93" and I love it. I'm thinking to repair it, the cost would be a couple thousand. But the engine alone would be worth well over 1750.
If my parents will let me, think I should do it? 0?

Hmm, salvage title...On a Supra...Eh...Not so sure.
I love the car, first off. But the thing is, it's a sports car for starters. And it's also a Japanese import. And it's also very rare. Combine them together and you have a car that has expensive parts. You may find that the prices for average parts are ungodly high. And being a salvage, Lord only knows how much you will need to buy/replace. Not to mention your insurance will be sky high. But if you get through all that you will have a very pimp car, one that makes me jealous beyond belief.
Make sure the frame is in good order, by the way. You don't want a bent one. Try making a list of the needed repairs, and doing a quick calculation of the total price. Remember too that bargaining should be expected. He is asking $1750, so offer $1250. Maybe he'll take it, maybe he'll say $1500. Who knows, but it's best to try. It IS a salvage, after all.
Good luck, and to be honest, I hope you get it. Keep us updated.

try to get as much info on the car possible. Sounds like a project car, yet repairs and parts are gonna be really expensive. Just to get it to a decent condition will cost, then you will probalby want to modify it. IMO, it is sitting in junkyard for a reason; I doubt I myself would take it unless there was something that really convinced me to.

just remember to carfax it and inspect every inch of it before you buy

See I don't have the money and it would take forever to get the car lookin decent.
But the engine runs real smooth. The rear is real smashed up but the front is in somewhat okay condition.
If I fixed it up I would definatly sell it because theres no way I could afford insurance on it.

I would check the car out from top to bottom. Make sure you can fix everything, make up a list of what you'll need, and contact some local body shops. Bring in a picture of it and see if they can help you out gettin 'er back to normal. Maybe you can get some good deals. Price everything up and then see how its gonna matchup with the resale.
On a side note, I found an 89 Supra as well for $2,900. I am gonna go check it out tuesday.

Thats a good plan. Thanks.
Some older supras *before 93* are fugly but the performance is mindblowing still. IF its a fugly one definatly get a body kit first.
Good luck if you purcahse that supra.

Perfect sleeper car. If I do get it, I wanna get it painted a dull black. So hot. Body kit is just added weight. I'll keep you guys updated on it. Good luck on yours.
