HAHA, Geeze
I was heading down the shore with my family to visit old friends and we decided that the four of us would go in my car since convertables are simply awesome on a nice sunday ride down the shore. Anyway, my father was driving and i'm sitting in the passengers side with my brother and mother in the back. We all hear a loud "bzzzz" noise next to us so we all look over at the same time. It's a kid in an older Mitsu Spyder with a huge fart can looking at us. I guess the kid thought a family looking at him meant a race was on because he took off "bzzzzzing" like crazy. After we got done laughing at the weedwacker sound and the kid trying to be tough (we didn't race him) the guy was a few cars ahead of us. We got to a toll booth and he happened to be next to us. My father gave it a bit of gas out of the toll booth like his usuel playing and the guy in the mitsu thought we wanted to race now and tried to catch up, well, we didn't see him after that....even in the rearview mirror.
tl;dr..... Kids in cars with weedwacker motors shouldn't race families in my car.
I don't know what it is about fast cars, but if i'm in the Cobra or the Viper people always get up close and then fly past you like they want you to race. I mean, if you don't have anything to show off then don't show off.

This just further supports my idea that there should be a mandatory IQ test for anyone trying to buy a car.
Stupid kids in their ridiculous little cars...

hardly. you see the new GTO on one of those hot rod shows? It beat one of the old goats, by at least a second (if not more). As they said, "You can't overcome 30 years of technology." Better gas mileage, emissions, power-to-displacement ratio, etc. Sure, it would kick ass having a muscle car, but new cars deserve respect as well.

i amuse myself sometimes by pulling up to some deuschebag 40 year old guy with a midlife crisis in a vette or something in my v6 mustang convertible...i revv up to see them peel out.
i dont try to be tough or try to win, i find it funny that old men think they are tough for owning a car thats cool once their wife has divorced them for another man.
and my mustang is fast enough to beat civics and other ricers, but is by no means quick

Nah, not this guy. You could hear he had no super charger or turbo and the motor wasn't over 3.0L. He wasn't pushing any more then 250hp at best. He was just playing.

Some guy in a Civic started revving his motor at me, and I was driving my truck. I don't know if he was actually going to race or whatever, but I turned into 7-11 anyway because I needed to get some drinks.

Just because a kid only pushes about 250hp you think its nothing??
Put it this way, old school cars weigh about 3-4k lbs, 400-500hp
Sport compacts.... weigh in any where from 2k-3500 lbs, Hp from 200- 500
you do the math.
just to give you an idea here is a pic of an SRT-4 and a Dyno sheet of the same car i saw at the Dodge Neon meet this weekend.
Drool away..
FORGOT TO MENTION THIS SRT-4 ONLY HAS THE STAGE 1 TURBO UPGRADE.
DYNO SHEET

Believe me, if you saw the car and the kid you knew he wasn't doing anywhere near the high to mid 12's my car can do not loaded. At best he was a 14 or 15 second car, he probibly thought he could beat us because of all the added weight. When I said he was only pushing 250hp at best, being the car came with about 210 that wasn't a huge increase. It wasn't exactly a tuned race car.
By the way, why would I drool at that? It is only about 60 more horses then my car and I didn't even touch the supercharger or computer, I change the pulley to a 6lb and chip it i'm at over 500hp no problem with only a few $100 worth of work, less if I do it and borrow a pulley tool and computer tuner. I've driven cars with a lot more power then that, it's less then the Viper is right now and that's a 1994 without any kind of boost, it probibly weighs about the same too.
You can't put old/new cars in brackets like that. My uncles '32 ford weighs only about 2000lbs and is pushing between 380-400hp from a 327. I know a kid with a Camaro with a 502 who only weighs 3000lbs and has over 550hp. A 454 was a common muscle car motor and with high compression pistons a bit over 500hp is easy work, forget about the 502's and 600's that are popular now. Harrison Fords '55 in American Graffiti had a 454ci and could easily run 11's and that was a big heavy car. In the end there really is no replacement for displacement. A bigger motor can always be made more powerfull then a smaller one. There are quite a few people with '03 Cobra's making over 1,000 reliable RWHP on street gas and that is only a 281c.i. motor. Think of what those crazy 600ci guys can run.

well I'll tell ya right now the tuner market is more expensive regardless...but the power to weight ratio is much better for the compacts, not to mention the fact that these are DAILY drivers....not your once in a while dirven street machines that sit during winter and stuff.
That SRT-4 has beaten a Vette and a Viper at the track, not by much may 2-3 tenths of a second, but still winning is winning.
also what kinda of a car do you have that came stock with 460hp????
The Srt 4s were olny about 240 rated....with a simple turbo upgrade this guy runs a consistent 480hp on pump gas at 30 psi of boost, plans for next srping are in the works for him to rebuild internals and push more boost.
I respect the V8s...i grew up around the old Chargers and Challenger R/ts, not your ordinary ones either. I love old school muscle but the sport compact market is cathing up faster than you think.
Put it this way go out and buy a car with say about 300-400hp stock, your going to spend over 40-50k on the car.
you can buy the sport compacts cheap, from $1- $5000 used and put in about 5-10kin aftermarket and make them faster than most V8s.
To put into perspective even more, the SRt4s can be picked up for under 20k and run a stock 14second quarter mile. Add some performance parts....say $10k more, now you have a 30$k car that will more than likely beat all street driven V8s

Good point, yet I think the spyder that attempted to challenge Dooms was a base spyder with a 140hp 2.4. Nothing special or anything, really more of a car to cruise in.

yeah the spyders are slow regardless...more weight due to the convertable top.....but the 2.4l Motors are some pretty good power houses waiting to be tapped....
not a lot of eclipse owners know the power capabilities of the 2.4L

You can do the same thing with a V8 and be even faster. I don't see your point.
