Haha
So last week I had to put like 1000 bucks into my car. Needed new brake pads, rotors, and apparently a new muffler. I didn't really notice the change in sound, but today I had a civic rev me near my house... (I drive an '89 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme)... I got home and got my dad to hit the gas when I was outside... the car has a rumble now... it's sorta ricey, but it's not terrible. I love it. I'm wondering how many ricers are gonna mess with my old ass pos now.

lol, no ricers really mess with me, I've got a 5.0 with two of the four cats punched out and dual flowmasters into 2.5" tailpipes. i've never actually heard it outside of the car, but it's loud enough. I changed the stock pos exhaust (2 to 1 to 2 fake duals) to the stock mustang exhaust (h-pipe), and I didnt have enough time to get the mufflers welded on. so i had to drive around town for 2 days with no mufflers, just 2 cats to quiet it down it was so ridiculously loud, i would floor it and people would look like "wtf is that?!" it was pretty damn slow off the line tho, not enough backpressure to make any torque. but yeah, the ricers really only usually mess with their own kind or the mustangs and camaros. only a couple actually try to race me, but then again my car is kinda nondescript

i'm not totally against ricers. look at their power to weight ratios, as well as their hp produced per liter of engine displacement. those numbers make our v6's and v8 look bad...but i hate that sound! i would much rather hear a 5.0 or a 350 chevy w/ flowmasters or magnaflows for that sweet powerful low rumble over that tin can sound any day...

A tight four banger can be a sweet ride.. what I find annoying are the all-show no-go cars with a huge exhaust and racing stickers.. or the hondas dressed up as lex's with altezzas and shaved emblems.

"Horsepower per liter" is a very overrated and tired argument. It's always beneficial to have a good ratio, but only crucial when your car makes low horsepower numbers to begin with.
If you want to talk about power to weight ratio, forget those ridiculous civics and trashy looking CRX's. The Elise does 1/4 in 13.1 seconds with only 187 bhp.

That rules. Seriously, one of the best ideas I've ever heard. Any good responses?

Something like...
Him: "Why are you holding up a coffee can?"
Me: "Why are you revving your 4 banger?"
Him: "Because I'm about to smoke you."
Me: "Go for it there's a speedtrap up ahead."
Him: "You want to race somewhere?"
Me: "Do you realize I'm driving a minivan full of groceries?"
Him: "You scared?"
Me: "Terrified."
Him: "Pussy."
Me: "Sure pull over up ahead and I'll race you."
Him: "Nevermind."

Since you've got him talking, that would be a good time to hold up a bottle of mountain dew and point out that your soda holds more liters than his engine.

I was tempted to bounce some hard object off his windshield but managed to restrain myself.

man, i want a damn chevy 350 blazer K-5 but the insurance is going to be like 500 or so dollars, and i'd ultimately pay only 2400 for the truck itself. though im laughing my ass off at the MT. dew being bigger. hell my dad's bmw is barely bigger then a 2 liter but its still a v6 with about 175 hp but it has great acceleration and great 0-60

See, I'm ok with ricey cars, but most of them are just body work. Stock Civic's with fat erector set wings, air filters, body kits, and mufflers are just funny. My buddy drives a TRICKED out WRX Imprezza... it's tight as hell, but he's a loss, and just drives to work and back. So yeah, some rice is tight, but a lot is just looks. I'm scared when I see the CRX's with a roll cage and no back seats... esp. when you hear the nice whistle fromt he turbo when they take off from a red.

Why be scared of a turbo CRX? Sure it's probably got a b18 engine, but 90% of turbo'd Honda's only live about 5,000 miles, give or take a few depending on how hard it's driven (which, more often that not, is wide-open-throttle all day).

.. and after all the work to swap the engine and turbo there are still so many cars that would eat it for lunch.
