Salt in engine oil...

I know this cant be good, but I'm just wondering how bad it is.

My friend has a relative that put salt in her engine oil, I dont know why, so dont ask. But I was just wondering if this would totally screw it up¿?

Thanks, google doesnt have too much info about salt in engine oil.... 0?

Well, (Speaking out of common sence) it would most likely begin to corrode your engine, if the salt were deposited over a long period of time, would it not?

Change out the oil, maybe send through some sort of 'cleaning agent' to flush out the salt, and replace the oil.

hmm, i would think, since salt is granular and hard, that it would just totally eat up the rings, pistons, sleeves, etc. if you fired up the engine. I wouldn't run it if theres salt in it, b/c you could screw up your engine to the max. Just think about it, its liek rubbing sand b/w two hard objects close together, it will and tear up all the insides.

If the engine can heat up real quick it might be able to liquify all the salt quick and keep damage to a minimum, then the trick is trying to get it all out. I say bring it to a professional and have a lot of money.

Drain your oil immediately. Then there is this stuff that you get at Autozone, its some kind of flushing agent, but you refill the engine with oil and add the flushing agent and start the engine and let it idle until it comes up to operating temperature then shut off the engine and do a second oil change and you should be fine.

then take your friend's relative's drivers license away for doing something as stupendously stupid as putting salt in an engine
