Stupid question (proly): Barrel Holes

What is their purpose, and how do the different size holes/number of holes effect the performance?

"porting"

these holes expel the gas as it moves down the barrel propelling the ball. The reason is to make it quieter. That's pretty much it.

Its called porting. And you don't necessarily want it unless you are a sniper.

The more porting = the quieter the shot because some air is being released before the ball gets out of the barrel so it has more...space to equalize the air which makes the shot quieter.

Also, the more porting = the less efficient the gun will be since the porting releases some air before the ball leaves the barrel, which means not all of it will be used to propel the ball, which means that you will need to increase your velocity, which means more air is used up. But it's not that big of a problem.

Porting is a good thing to have, and no good aftermarket barrel out right now generally has too much porting, so you don't need to worry about that, or the size of the porting. I was just letting you know.

Depends on how much money you want to spend and how many different brands of paint you shoot.
