I searched this but it came up with nothing: Can anyone explain the bore system and the pro and cons of each size?

If you could give a nublet like myself a brief synopsis of it or point me in the direction of some literature on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I'm looking at making a Proto Rail 07 my first marker, I don't know if that matters, just thought I'd share.

dont have a answer to ur first question but dont get a rail for ur first gun... evrybodt ends up breaking there first gun or miss treat it in someway that they dont relize..a nd ou dont wanna mess areound with expsnvive guns if you dont know what ur doin ya know? im acually selling a rail but ya just a thought but get whateva you want..

oh and The bore is the interior diameter of the barrel. The bore properly matching the brand of paint being fired is the most critical aspect of a barrel, far beyond gas effiency or silence in most situations. A poor bore/paint match will result in velocity variations, which causes inaccuracy. Two and three-piece barrels allow the barrel bore to be matched to the paint diameter without entirely new barrels. Paint to barrel matching is doubly important in closed-bolt markers (as ball detents in such markers serve to prevent double-feeding, not to prevent roll-outs) such as Autocockers, because small paint in a large barrel can roll out the front of barrel.

Anyway , the first question. There is no real pro/con to the different bore size. Some balls are smaller than others, and some are bigger. So the bore that fits the ball better is the best choice.

What you need to do, is fine a bore that will fit the ball almost perfectly. If you pick a bore to small though, the ball will shoot inaccurately. If you pick a bore to big, the ball will shoot not accurate as possible.

I personally put the ball in the bore, and blow into the barrel. If it shoots out without problems, that is what bore I use.

what are the most common sizes for quality paint? i dont want to go for a whole kit, but want a good match. any suggestions?

Usually from .689 - .694 you will see quality paint. But the size of the ball doesn't determine quality.

And also, if the ball has a greater diameter than the barrel, if it is too brittle the ball will rub up against the inside of the barrel and create friction which can break the ball (barrel break). So it's best to have a ball that matches perfectly with the barrel or smaller, never really bigger.

Keep in mind that the climate outside will effect the size of the ball. Warm weather will make the ball softer and expand it a little. Cold weather will make the shell more brittle and smaller maybe. So, if your paint is too small, maybe you could let it sit in the sun for a little to soften them up, could help with the paint to barrel match.

everything you said was true but the last thing. sun is a bad idea it doesnt work that way sun will make the shell bigger because its coming in direct contact with heat. if you let it sit in room tempature you should be fine.. but please just dont waste your paint by destorying it in the sun.

Ya, I meant for like 5 minutes or so just to expand it a little bit. But yes, you're right. Too long in the sun and it will ruin the paint altogether.
