Guide: Taking care of your paint.
Aright this was a sticky last time so I'm expecting it to be a sticky again.
Choosing your paint: you can't shoot crap so don't buy it.
Buy at least some sort of reliable paintballs, from a good company. I absolutely love RPS, they're advantage shell makes it so they never swell, but brands such as diablo and GAP are good too. Also, buy paint from your local pro shop, its usually freshest if bought from them. Also places like walmart and kmart usually have their paint sit on the shelves for longer. Also another reason to buy from pro shops is that they usually give you a discount or a different batch if paint is broken when you buy it.
Storing it: So you bought your paint, and hopefully its good. First off you want to make sure there are no breaks, if there are get a few paper towels and pour the paint on to a flat surface where it wont roll away and such. Just collect the broken shells, and use the paper towels to dry off all the paint by rolling it around. Now once you get your paint I like to take it out and put it in a cooler, but WITHOUT THE ICE. It keeps the paint less sensitive to heat and humidity, making it last much longer. Use Crossfire magazine's baby rule, if it would make a baby cry dont put your paint there. Now once a week or so if you kept it in bags or whatever flip your paint, the gravity and the paint on top of it will give it dimples, so just shift them around every once and a while depending on how brittle it is. (more expensive usually means more brittle)
Before the day of play: Aright so you got a tourny tomorrow with your tricked out gun but it doesnt mean crap unless you can get that paint where it needs to go. So heres what you do. First get all your paint onto a flat surface, roll the paint around with a paper towel to remove oily residue on the outside, and to partially get rid of any dimples that have formed. (this can be skipped if there's no oil or dimples) Also get your pods ready when you get there or before you drive up, dont leave paint in your pods over night unless you want dimples. And please when you're on the field dont fill all your pods half full they'll bounce around so much that when you reload it looks like you're pouring fruit juice into your hopper. Fill your pods snug, tight is tight, too tight is broke. You want to hear one or two with some space when you shake it and for the lid to close.
this doesnt really have to do with taking care of your paint but barrel cleaning stuff is very helpful in removing the oil from paintballs out of a barrel. The oil on the paint can ruin a perfectly good barrel, so I recommend getting this: http://www.xpaintball.com/proteamprodb.html it should help alot.
Also dont take paint off the ground.
Why dimples are bad
The rounder the ball, the more accurate it is. If it gets dimpled or dented, it will have an uneven surface which will create spin and send the ball flying off 20 feet to the side of your target. Also dimpled balls are more likely to jam and break in your hopper and gun.
thats about it
Heres some good RPS paint laydown

any questions? if so you can PM me or just ask them in this thread.
also any suggestions are welcome

Nicely done. Except when 1337PAINTBALLER runs out of paint he picks up 500 balls off the ground and turns his eyes on.
Not recomended.

rofl, when the kat runs out of paint, he turns his "eye" on and buys bags of 500 Huricane for 15 bucks at the field
Coincedently I just switched to PMI premium for my all purpose paint from evil. I have to say it flys nice and is tough as nails, but I have noticed a definate lack in breaking range. Not just compared to evil (spoiled I am), but all in all. But for the price I would agree 100% its up there for rec.

RPS Premiums have never failed me.
Are all the stickies going to be recovered? Or are the original posters just going to have to redo them?

Yes most likely, but have you been flipping it every other day? If you havent you'll have dimples on your paint. Dimples produce spin which makes inaccurate and inconsistant shots. 3 months is about the shelf life of most paintballs except RPS advantage shells. Flip them every other day until you go ballin, then do the rolling thing on the paintballs which should make them rounder and take off oil on the outside.

I highly reccomend Evil paint. I have used just about every kind of paint there is and Evil is the best hands down.
Stay away from Brass Eagle, Veiwloader, Marbalizer. Buy anything but those.
Also, Diablo is a very small bore. Like in the .683-.687 range.

Wait, how do I clean the oil off the paintballs? Do i Use my bare hands and wipe them off (as if it were like peeling a hard boiled egg), or do i Use paper towers to wipe them off?

Paper towers, just take a few out at a time and roll it over the balls.

I've had some crappy zap paint sitting around for about 2 years, and i just shot some in my yard, and none broke, its amazing, and no i didn't waste my time to flip them at all when they were in storage!
I think you people over-protect your paint.

maybe I do but still. Zap definitely doesnt have a reputation for high quality paint, also the shell was probably very thick on your paint making them harder to dimple and since the shell was so thick it also made the paint last longer without getting soft, since it was really hard in the first place.

over protecting niods, this crap doesn't matter. Well I guess it does if you have TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS! I dunnno bout you but im not going to spend the time of day to flip my paint. I just stick it in the box and put it on a shelf in my garage (bout room temp) I still think its a good idea to have fresh paint and stupid to go with like month old paint. But 1-2 weeks of not touching and using is never going to make a big difference in your game. That artical in crossfire was just because they needed to fill some space...

I like my paint to shoot straight and not be dimpled. I dunno about you. But if you're not super lazy but don't have a lot of time just flip them pancake style so theres only 2 or 3 balls on top of eachother. Then they'll rarely dimple. If your paint is crap then I don't care how expensive your gun is, its not gonna go where you want it. I'm about to use month old paint later today or tomorrow, and its gonna shoot better than your dimpled balls, I can guarantee it.
Also if you buy really thin shelled balls they dimple very easily, and thick shelled paint takes a while to dimple.

My Draxxus Blaze doesnt get dimples easily. It is the only paint I use and I love it. I just flip the bags around every once in a while.
