looking at alias
Hi I was looking at getting an alias. What I was wondering is: is there any problems that you have run into with an alias. What upgrades do you guys recommend. On a scale 1 to 10 how do you like your alias compared to angel speed 05 and egos? Thanks

I was in the same position as you were, comparing the Alias to an 05 speed or Dm4(egos weren't out yet). Honestly for the first month I hated myself for going with the Alias, but then I figured out how to fix it and maintain the gun. Have someone teach you how to work on the gun and you'll be fine. Things to get asap:
1. Adjustable Ram Cap
2. Hard Detents if you run a haloB
3. Lots of paint
Seriously I love mine. I just bought a tadao board last week for it and i love it even more now. Just know how to adjust it and how to maintain your gun, and it'll rip.
If you haev any questions ask and I will try my best to answer. I also have a digi camera so if you want me to show you how to do something with pictures, get me on AIM or something.

Personally I like the Alias best, although the Ego is a very close second, the deciding factor between the two IMO would be the availibility of parts locally if I need them for the Timmy while having to mail-order anything I need for the Ego which could result in the gun being down for a practice or tourney.
I would also add to the list of upgrades:
1) Violent Products Delrin Pistons for the HPR and LPR
2) A Barrel or Barrel kit
and if your budget can swing it:
3) Tadao "Infamous" board
4) Techna Trigger
I also do like the Violent Products Teflon bolt, however the stock bolt is excellent as well so I wouldn't put in in the catagory of a mandatory upgrade, more of something if you got the extra money and want it, its nice, but there is no huge need to do it either.

Tests have shown the Violent Pistons don't show any increase in consistency. I figured if he has the money for an alias he had it for the barrel kit. The tadao board rips. I got one 2 weeks ago.

get the alias, like DaBluedevil said, your prolly gonna get some frustration if you dont know what your doing, but read some FAQs, learn about th way your gun works, what different things do, common problems, and learn how to tune it to perfection. Once you get an idea of what your doing, youll love it.

off the bat your going to want no matter what an adjustable ram cap, id go with the hyrbid one. Hard detents, theyre always a good idea. a nice barrel, dont get a freak, get something like an empire kit, they are really nice. as for a trigger, technas are easily the best IMO, but also expensive and a long wait. You could check out the new assassins trigger, which i heard was incredible. PM me if you want the site for that.
and yeah the Tadao board, which is just indescribably awesome.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Not sure if I buy that since here locally at the local field with 4 different timmy's at the same time using paint from the same batch when both VP pistons were installed the consistency increased by about 1-2 FPS variance using 2 different chronos to verify the results.

i think the effectiveness of VP pistons is really debatable. I personally believe they work, they helped my friends timmy a bit, not a lot but they did help. DaBluedevil, it was an LPR piston for him.

Already did that, it was the LPR The HPR didn't offer much of a change 0 on 3 Timmies, then the one Timmy that was the least consistant of all four got a 2 FPS fluctuation drop, so on average it affected it at .50 FPS better consistancy while on the HPR, however since it only affect 1 of the timmy's I would say its effects were negligible. But since its so cheap and since it did have an effect on 1 if I was buying a LPR piston anyway I would just get both, in none of the test guns did it make the consistency worse, so it won't hurt, and it might offer some benefit.
Oh and

I am there almost everyday (yes I need a life ) Anymore testing ideas, let me know I will try it out, if I can or it doesn't bankrupt me. I am a compulsive tester of parts, can't even count how many barrels or kits ( I think at one point I had close to 45 barrels), bolts, triggers, ect. I have tested the many nights I have been there. Try to keep detailed records of the products I tried out as well (if the data was quantifiable and not subjective (like triggers).
*PS* When I traded my DM4 for the Empire Timmy averaged over 20 shots it was shooting over the chrono +/- 5 FPS, I put a VP piston in the LPR (same piston as the HPR on the Alias-style Timmys) and it averaged +/- 2 over the same number of shots, so I inclined to believe, that the LPR is the key one in the 2k2 styled Timmies as well, although to make that conclusion I would need to test more older Timmies (I will accept donations )
