Official System X NME Thread

Alright since there is no system x part of the forum I decided to make one here since the NME is pretty much a carbon copy of a timmy.

System X NME F.A.Q.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is this just another timmy clone?
A: The NME is very similar to the Intimidator in design. They both have an air-powered ram, a bolt, etc. However, the NME has a few minor improvements that Jim Drew suggested to Bob Long but were never incorporated into the Intimidator line.

Appearence - All NME are hand made and feel that way. You don't shake it and hear rattling or loose parts. They feel solid and have improved on alot of intimidator's mistakes.

Operation - They are just as fast, if not, faster than a Timmy... The major difference is there is no kick. Timmys have great rates of fire but sometimes experience kick. They are similiar on efficiency but that depens on your markers setup. The NME though we have gotten more shots per fill on a 68/4500 than our old Ripper 2.

Annodizing - System X often sells blemished markers for cheaper.... We have yet to come across an NME that has poor annodizing.

Upgrading/Modification - This is probably the only area that the NME falls short of the Intimidator. The Intimidators have been a bench mark in paintball for a long time so naturally they have more upgrades available. The NME will eventually have aftermarket upgrades available but that is something that is not around right now. (In our opinion out of the box is great though)

In closing, we are not trying to bash Intimidators...we used them for years. We are just stating facts about our past experiences with the company and the products. Once a Timmy is setup and broken in the right way they run like a dream. For most consumers though it is not in their best interest to buy a gun that needs to be tweeked out of the box. System X did not have the best rep when they were making autocokers but this new design is the "real deal." This is coming from someone who has seen both ends of the spectrum. The Timmy is still an awesome marker but our staff converted to the NME because we feel it is a quality product.

Like any gun purchase try shooting one first and that is the only true way you'll know it is for you. You can read as many reviews as you want but it all comes down to personal preference in the

Q: Jim Drew? Isn't that the guy who made the WAS boards?
A: Indeed. The NME's are extremely quick because they have WAS for brains.

Q: What about the eyes? The ball detents? What type of battery does it use?
A: The eyes are break-beam WAS eyes. If they are anything like the eyes WAS made for timmies then they can see through broken paint. The marker comes with dual ball detents. You should use a 9 volt.

Q: Does the gun have an LCD?
A: No. It has a single LED (not like the LED displays found in the E-blade).

Q: But if it doesn't have an LCD, how would I program the gun?
A: You can program WAS boards through trigger pulls and what not. Instructions for programming can be found in the NME Manual. More on this later.

Q: What kind of trigger does the NME come with?
A: System X has taken no short cuts in the design of the NME. They included a fully adjustable dual ball bearing magnetic trigger stock!

Q: I really like the Techna line of triggers for my Timmy. Will they fit on the NME?
A: At first glance it does not seem as if the triggers are compatible. However, with some modifications Timmy triggers might fit (this is only my guess). Rumor has it that Jason from Techna may or may not make triggers for the NME.

Q: Does the NME come with an adjustable ram cap?
A: Yes. There is also no need to re-adjust ram bumpers once they are set since the bumper is recessed into the ram. This makes for a very sturdy, low maintenance design.

Q: What type of feedneck does the NME come with?
A: It is a twist lock feedneck found in many markers today.

Q: What kind of barrels does the NME take?
A: It takes cocker threaded barrels.

Q: What is the efficiency on the NME? Consistency?
A: Though I don't have a concise number yet, it should be on par with, if not better than, Alias model Intimidators. After breaking my regs in I was able to get +/- 2 wth fresh Hellfire using the stock barrel. This included four consecutive readings of 297.

Q: What inline reg comes with the marker?
A: It comes with the System X regulator. It is similar to the torpedo but has higher flow and a 360* rotating connector.

Q: How is the maintenance on an NME compared to a timmy?
A: Because the design of the two markers is so similar, the maintenance is as well.

Q: If I buy a brand new NME, what should I expect to see in the box?
A: You will get the NME with an attatched on/off, the stock barrel, 9 volt battery, a spare parts kit, and the manual. All you literally need to do is add air, paint, and a loader and you are ready to go.

Q: How good is the stock barrel?
A:Stock barrel is actually pretty good with a .689 bore. I'd still recommend upgrading it when you can but it performs well as long as the paint matches it

Q: How do I know I am adjusting the Ram Cap the right way? How do I benchmark it?
A:Stick the allen-key into the ramcap, then, looking down your feedneck, and having your bolt in the back position, screw in your ramcap until you se the bolt sticking out about 0,5-1 mm into the breech. This is the best I have noticed on mine.

The LPR is very easy to adjust. just unscrew the tiny screw on the tip of the LPR and screw clockwise to increase the LPR-pressure, and counterclockwise to decrease...

Q: What about loaders, what do I use?
A: Any motorized loader will work, we find that an Empire Reloader B, Halo B, and an Egg with a Z board all work fine with the marker. It comes down to a size preference, and what you are comfortable using.

Q: What about detents; how often should I change them and what modifications need to be done to them?
A: I've put about 5 cases through mine, detents still look mint. And SX was nice enough to include 2 extra sets so I should be good for a while. The only problem I have seen is extreme cold would make them too rigid and wear them out faster. Make sure your detents are pushed towards the front of the marker, and that is all you need to do.

Q: What settings work best on my NME
A: eye mode 2, set the bounce where your comfortable.
you dont need to mess with anything else. The only thing worth messing with is your prefered eye mode and the debounce. Watch the debounce though because this trigger is sensitive. You set it to low and it will bounce like crazy. It's good for impressing friends on how much the marker rips though.

Q: What about HP or LP tanks? Can I run them through this marker?
A: Low pressure or high pressure tanks will work fine

Q: What parts are upgradeable at this time?
A: Only thing you can replace is barrel, feedneck, asa, grips and HPR so far. I'm sure we'll start seeing other aftermarket parts as this marker takes off in '05 with all the new sponsorship deals with SX.

Q: What threads does an NME take?
A: Cocker Threads.

Q: Will a timmy trigger fit on an NME?

A: At this point no it will not, the triggers are based on the same concept, however the NME trigger is a bit longer, includes magnets and the switch points do not match up entirely.

Yes this is all taken from pbn, but i thought that this would also be helpful on here.

Woot! An NME thread! I can finally have an area to post my questions!

1) I had eye problems the last time I used my NME LE. I'm in Eye Mode 2 (tracks the bolt) and it would shoot for a while, and then stop. I turned the eyes off, fired once, and then turned the eyes back on and it worked fine. Is there a problem with the eyes?

2) What type of lube should I use on my NME LE?

3) Is there anything I should know about before I disassemble the gun for the first time. It's my first electro, and I don't want to hurt anything. I've never worked on one before, and I just want a heads up on any important info.

Thanks!

1 i wouldnt worry about the eyes it may have been a minor glitch such as a small amount of grease on them that may have been rubbed off by the paintballs

2 use dow 55 lube or if your local shop dosent carry it use shocker lube (dow 33) its basicall the same

3 take it apart slowly in a large space preferably on a white towel and try to put all like parts together (like eye cover , eye cover screw dont just toss a bunch of screws and other parts on your towel) dont force anyting like if a screw wont turn or some other piece wont come off you may end up breaking it. you dont have to take apart everything like your reg and lpr those are complicated and should be left until you have some more experience. dont remove any o rings they are difficult to remove and may get streched out and you probably dont have all the sizes on hand for replacement

Does anybody know what version board it comes with stock? It has PSP and NXL ramping...

Yeah, I figured I'd get an UL first. Today, I played with it and was looking for things it could improve on... Consistency is great. The balls were a little spread out, though.
