Intimidator Upgrades [still under construction]

Many people ask "what upgrades should I get?" after buying their Intimidator. The following should be on your list if you ever feel the need to get upgrades.

1) Sometimes out of the box Intimidators have chopping problems. One of the reasons could be bolt misalignment and can be solved by purchasing an adjustable ram cap. Companies like Hybrid, Check-it, CP and Bob Long manufacture these at a price around 25$. Sometimes paint is too small and can roll back away from the eyes, causing double feeding and chopping. What they do is allow you to adjust the position of the ram, which holds the bolt, in turn adjusting the position of the bolt.

2) A major part of owning an Intimidator is lubing it. It is recommended to lube the ram every 2,000 shots and the regs every 3,000 shots. Dow33 and Dow55 are two lubes you can use. Many people you ask will say use Dow55 because it will give you a better seal by swelling the o-rings. This is true but it doesnt matter which one you use as they both serve the same purpose, so make your choice based on availability and price. Dow55 is hard to find and can be purchased in places such as Paintball Kingdom for a price around 18$ for a 5oz tube (toothpaste size)

3) All timmies pre-2k4 will have the stock Dragon trigger. As this is an OK trigger some people are looking for something different. Some widely known choices are the CP, Critical and Techna . All the following use ball bearings which help give the trigger a smooth feel while keeping it in places to eliminate side to side play. They all have different styles to choose from too, so you can pick whichever one fits you.
  • CP offers two different aluminum triggers, Blade and Swoop, usually priced around 35$
  • Critical- Aluminum, based off the popular Techna Scythe (personal triggers made for the Oakland Assasins). They come with a free magnetic trigger kit that allows a snappy quick return to the home position and the shape is very unique. It can be found at Critical's home site at a price of 50$
  • Techna- Hand made, carbon fiber triggers of the highest quality. This trigger is well known among the Intimidator community and many Intimidator owners have one. There are many styles to choose from so there is a Techna trigger for everyone. The carbon fiber material is so light the force of the microswitch returns the trigger to the home position. Its like having a magnetic trigger without the magnets! Now because of the competition that Critical offered, the maker, JKW has decided to create the ScytheII. The once personal Oakland Assasins trigger is now available to the public , in a smaller sleeker form. Techna triggers can be found at their homesite and are 65$ each.

4) Some people may choose to upgrade their regulator too. Two widely known choices that many timmy owners look to are the CP Grip and the AKA Sidewinder. Really you cant go wrong with either one. The CP reg is a great reg that has good looks and rock hard consistency priced around 75$. Its internals are similar to Torpedo reg so it wont be hard to learn about it. If you want one that is about the same length then get Top: With Guage, Bottom: Short (Macro only) OR Top: NO guage, Bottom: Long (uses fittings). The sidewinder is another reg with fantastic consistency priced around 90$. The swivel cap where you insert the macroline can spin 360 degrees so it can fit to fully comfort you. This reg is a little "old skool" but is still great for all LP guns such as intimidators. If you want it to match the Torpedo's length then get medium.

dude, the torpedo reg is fine. its the only thing i really have on my gun that is stock. cause it just works sooo great. u just gotta break it in a lil.

anyways, hard detents are a must for halo users, slotted bolt could be of use,(ie. shocktech supafly)
the new pistons for the regulators might be nice too. The stock ram is very good, but you could go to a shocktech or kapp or something if you felt necessary. barell KIT is a must. gotta get those paint to barrel matches. i recomend the evil pipe. halo B is a must, so you can see the full performance of your intimidator. on/off's are always nice, but thats for evrey pb gun in general. you could upgrade to a frenzy board if it is not coming stock with you bobby. if your gun doesnt come with high flow barbs, slap some of those on there. otherwise, not too much else that needs to be upgraded. then its just all icing from there, such as stickies, and color stuff.

Lately, the Torpedos have had bad springs. If you don't want to deal with all of that, get a new reg. That's what I did, I have a CP now, and I love it. Also, I would get the black Spyder detents, they work great w/ Halos and don't get chopped up as fast.

I made a list for another forum, but I'll post it here.

Classic Intimidators:

Needed:
  • Adj. Ram Cap
Popular:
  • Clamshell
  • New board
  • Inline reg
  • LP Mod for duals
  • Barrel
  • Clamping Rise
Pre 2k4 Intimidators:

Needed:
  • Adj Ram Cap
Popular:
  • Clamping Rise
  • Barrel
  • Trigger
  • New board [for older 2k2s that came w/ SOB]
  • Inline reg
  • Volumizer
2k4 Intimidators:

Popular:
  • Barrel
  • Inline reg
  • Trigger
Let me know if I'm missing anything, or if you don't agree with something.

I think barrel is a no brainer. If a person who has an Intimidator doesnt know the importance of paint to barrel match then he should just return it.

Worth noting that Dow55 is considered a Hazardous Material and is more difficult to ship. Also, it's worth noting that, though it appears expensive, a 1 or 2 ounce bottle of either Dow 33 or Dow 55 goes a long way.
