Rainmakers, em1s, and tribals are all great markers for the man who makes his own stuff.

All are electros that had failing points out of the box, but possesing great potential.

THAT's why you don't sell an RM.

I do post here... im here almost daily now.

Anyways, if you think RM's suck then fine, its all to my advantage when we play. But unfortunatly no one has ever thought that about my gun after they have seen it in use. So my advantage of being underestimated never really happens.

My Rainmaker was flat out awesome when it worked, but it was twitchy when I bought it. I got it for a steal (at the time, they're much cheaper now actually) from a guy that had played on one of the Team Extreme tourney teams back in '98 and had several of them. The gun has LOADS of aftermarket potential, but you gotta be savvy enough to do it yourself unless you know who to go to. At the time I wasn't up to it, but if I got another now I think I might be.

Boss, were there any valves available for it besides the AKA valve?

yes, the madman rocket valve has recently come out, but i have not gotten it to work, i have even tried two different ones with different spring and input pressure setups. Another option has been a stock valve with the valve pin turned down on a lathe. This is probably the cheapest way to get a higher flow valve. A new way to modify the stock parts is to take off some of the back of the stock valve so the pin can be pushed in farther by the hammer. The last option is one that originally failed but i made my own, an autococker valve adapter. I made an adapter out of aluminum that fits in the RM and takes AC valves.

Hey Boss, thanks for responding. I'm splatterpunk on the RMOG board and I got virtually no answers to my questions on that board, except from ScottQ. I was going to bid on that RM auction that had the AKA parts with it but I let it slip by and Spartan got it. It's a shame the AKA stuff isn't available anymore, and I reall don't feel like taking a hosing trying to get my hands on a Tornadoe valve. I should've bid on that auction, but it's too late now.

As far as other mods go, I had one of the first mac mounts that came out and didn't really care for it too much but the AAP front block looks really good and would also be a good place to mount your LP reg ala Autococker. I would want one of those and a back block, but I'm not sure if there are any of those available now. As far as the board goes, I'm not a real fast shooter, and I actually preferred the "switch" trigger that came on the '99 SF models. I actually put one on my '98 and was always totally happy with the ROF. I also like single triggers--not a fan of double.

I see that people are starting to retrofit grip frames too, which is good because the stock grip frame was always a piece of crap. It was cheap cast aluminum and I went through two of them, one broke while I was trying to do something with it and the other just bent sideways so that my gun would sit cock-eyed in my grip. Totally not cool.

Anyway, my main concern is availability of all the parts I'd want and the money I'd have to spend.

The AAP front blocks aren't really available any more, you could only find one used. I forgot how many were made, but it wasn't a lot. You might be able to find one on RMOG. Personally though i wasn't that impressed with it and i ended up modifying mine into something much better.
This is what i ended up with:

I drilled out the old mounting point and countersunk it to mount a mag VA there, then i took off the minicocker VA and screwed in the LP reg where that was. It worked nice, but you had to use the stock frame with it. It also put a lot of weight on that front piece of the stock grip frame and did not seem very strong to me.
My new front block was made by rainman229:

I like this one much better. Way more solid, makes the front look a little more cleaned up. and it has the frame adapter. Only disadvantage is that it makes disassembly and assembly more difficult

This front block and the back block are both still available from rainman229, but not at the moment, he has recently moved and needs a month or two to get back up and running.

It is one of the funnest guns to work on.
It works similar to the Cocker, except the Rainmaker is based on the Sterling pump (not the Sniper pump).

If you understand the Cocker, you will understand the RM.
Its also pretty forgiving, since the trigger-timing is FIXED, the dwell is fixed, the LPR is fixed. (same for debounce, etc).
There is nothing to screw up, as far as timing goes (the major headache on the cocker). FPS is adjusted via the REG which is the ONLY adjustment on the gun.

They stopped making them years ago, but fortunetly, the Rainmaker uses alot of "off the shelf" parts. The ram, noid, and barrel are all found on other guns.
The reg, LPR, grip, valve and board from other guns can be "made to fit".
The only proprietary parts are the bolt, carrier and hammer. They are nearly identical to the Sterling/Vector, but I don't know if they are compatable.

They are also VERY easy to convert to mech, or pump. All around a great "tinker gun", but not recommended for a newb. They have some issues, and you will NOT likely get any support from your local field.
They would have probobly been forgotten a few years ago, but PB-something sold a few thousand off for $100, and lots of people are using them again.

I remember the site, but they sold out in Feb of 2003. They were even peices together "parts rainmakers" in the end. Brass Eagle completely cleaned out there inventory.

The good news is that it drove down the prices everywhere, so its pretty easy to pick a good used one from ebay for $70-120.

With a $120 morlock board you can turn it into a top of the line nice gun. You would also want a better regulator set up. Tribals are also great for cheap hobby guns.

Oh and heres a nice frame if you want to tinker around http://www.********.com/detail.aspx?ID=1176

Considering dumping my t1 electronics into there but its a bit of a squeeze because the board and solenoid sit in the grip frame rather than on top of it or in a seperate part of the body like on other guns.
