Customizing my Tippmann 98C
Alright folks...
I need a bit of help here.
I'm a good player on the field but when it comes to dealing with equipment my knowledge is limited.
I have a Tippmann 98 Custom with all stock accessories besides the newly added shoulder stock.
The gun is shooting very poorly and accuracy doesn't seem to exist.
A friend of mine said maybe trying a longer barrel would help some.
Basicly what I'm looking for is some imput on what could make my gun better.
I played with a A-5 the same day I was having problems and when the round was over I had 3 kills. Can't score any with my 98.
I know paintballs are not very accurate as is but I have seen the diffrence between my gun and the guns of my fellow players.
Any imput would we welcomed.
Thanks for the help.

no, a longer barrel doesn't mean more accuracy(all you need is 14, at the most 16), but it would be smart to upgrade to maybe a j&j or a cp 2 piece. one or the other should increase your accuracy.

Right on. I would get a different barrel. Nothing like a 21", but like Kenny said 12-16 inches.
The stock barrels on the 98 aren't known for their performance.

So basicly the major point is that stock Tippmann barrels are not the best.
So can anyone sujest a barrel that would work well with a 98C.
I saw a Terminator Model 98 Barrel 16 Inch but I have no clue about barrels and how well they work.
If anyone has any imput that would be great.
Thanks for the help so far folks...

I'd stick with name brand stuff. SmartParts, J&J, Lapco, CP, and so on. As a rule though, since the gun only cost something like $100, I wouldn't buy a barrel that cost just as much.
There's plenty of deals on used barrels that will have the same performane at an even lower cost.

Haha stock tippmann barrels are a JOKE. They look like they've been sandblasted 5 times over on the inside. Its rediculous.
A good all around cheaper barrel are the J and J performance 1 piece 14" barrel. Advritised to self clean, which is a bit of an exageration, but it does a hell of alot better at self cleaning than alot of other barrels. 14" is considered to be the "perfect" standard barrel length if you will. Somewhat quiet, and with the right color choice, i find that it matches the color of the stock tippmann body well, if cosmetics are an issue. Not to mention, its alot more accurate than the stock barrel too. If you have a choice, i would get a .691 internal size bore. If you can't, i wouldn't go under .689 but wouldn't go over .693.
Also to improve accuracy, try buying a higher quality of paint, and it sounds like your gun is relatively new also. once the gun breaks in, it will settle down.

Well if the stock barrels have a reputation of being a wuote "Joke" that would explain why mine has been so bad.
Well the last step to all this is to ask where could I buy a barrel runder the description that counterstrike53 mentioned.
Anyone know a online shop that I could drop buy???
I found a J & J tippann 98C barrel but it was over a size bore of .693
Thanks again for the help.

I can tell you that it doesn't matter what barrel you buy for a tippmann, EVERYTHING is better than the stock barrel. I measuerd out the bore size with my calipers. The barrel is .700 at the breach and .692 at the muzzle. The barrel is bored out BACKWARDS.

we all know tippman stock barrels suck, id go wit the teardrop/progresive barrel the other one looks to much like a stock ion barrel.

Whatever you do don't buy a flatline. It works good till you break a ball then its trash. $100+ for the flatline.
Good Luck
