Adding to a BT-4
I am looking into changing from a Recon Tac-5 camo marker to a BT-4 Combat. However if I do I would like to add a new barrel (something like on the BT-4 Assualt) and stock. So I have a few questions.
1) Is it worth the time and money to change out the stock items?
2) How does the military style barrel effect the gun? Does it improve, etc.
3) What would be some recommendations for items.
Thanks D

id go with a 98 custom over the bt4, due to the bigger aftermarket, and the 98 has been around a bit longer, and has a much better track record. Same as the bt4, you can buy the stock, barrel, and handguard kits for the 98 custom. Its like any other 12-14 inch barrel, adding maybe a bit of accuracy. It sounds like youd like a milsim setup, and the kit isnt horribly expensive on the 98 custom.

ugh.. A BT4 is a better constructed marker than the 98, by far. Both the BT4 and BT16 will use nearly every aftermarket accessory available to the 98 series markers and the A-5.
As for the M16 style barrel, many people have problems adjusting the shroud to line up correctly once the barrel is on their marker. Most of what you are paying for is the shroud, otherwise it's just a plain 14" barrel with the same threads as an A5. If you already have barrels with different threads, you can change out the barrel lug to accept different threads. Lapco makes the replacement barrel lugs.
Since you are asking about a BT4, one of the first things I would recommend is a regulator. the marker will operate around 650psi, which will extend the use of each tank fill significantly. the BT4 does not use a tombstone system like the BT16 or A5, so if you want a regulator, I would recommend a PPS Stabilizer in the 98Kit, which includes a mounting bracket for the bottom of the handgrip. It replaces the ASA on the marker.
Yes, the tippman 98 series has been around longer, but the quality on them is seriously diminishing, and they already use poor materials in manufacturing. BT Paintball uses milled billet aluminum for their marker bodies, instead of the cast aluminum like Tippmann. Both of the BT markers have adjustable/removeable foregrips, unlike the A5, which is only removeable. MilStd Weaver rails are included with the majority of the models of BT markers, and are not offered at all by tippmann.
BT Paintball has essentially taken the best parts of the 98 series and the A5 and mixed them together in a better manufacturing process, and created a much superior marker line.

Thanks
Thanks Guys for the info.
My wife ended up buying me a Tippmann 98 and I didn't know. But thanks again for the info so I am going to try to upgrade it. I am thinking a Apex - M16 barrel and stock with a bi-pod and sight/handle for starts. What is your opinion of the cyclone feeder and can that be added to a tippmann 98.
I think this might be a older model 98 since my newphew has a brand new 98 and they seem a little different around the name.

The cyclone needs work. the plastic ratchet and axle assemblies are still breaking, after being remade 3 times from different materials. For the 98, it's a nice option strictly because you can remove it and slap on a standard feedneck without problems.
On the M16Apex, you may have to loosen up the set screws on teh shroud to get it to line up propperly. I normally advise people to just remove the shroud from it entirely, unless you specifically want the mil-sim look. This gives you a 14" barrel with the Apex, instead of the normal 10" on a basic Apex.

Thanks Sartek,
I think you can get an APEX barrel without the shroud. I might look into it before I make the final desicion. It will be a 2007 project, since the baby is due in a few weeks no time to play with upgrades.
