A great idea just popped into my head.
Prepare for a little rambling:
Colored Air, Clear Macro.
Okay, so lets say crossfire comes up with a gel lining for the inside of their tanks that can "dye" compressed air to make it a certain color.
Wouldn't it be schweet if you could have blue air coming out of your all blue gun, or out of the feedneck when dry firing, and you could see solid blue every time your marker cycled through the macroline?!
would this be possible? even after AP chemistry i couldn't tell you what chemical can create colored "smoke" in compressed air. (at least safely)

I started to try something like this, but everything I though of would somehow hurt the gun.

Ya, talk about gunk on all the internals, crapping on the noid, all up in the barrel, reg, ya..Plus it would give you away, MAYBE, in a game.
But just messing around with an old low-end, would be funny.

You wouldn't see "the flow" of the gas, it's not like the macroline empties after each shot and refills. That's why it's called constant air. You'd only see it the first time you air it up and when you degas it and take the last shot or two.

It would be very handy for finding leaks.

sounds interesting but i cant think of anything that might do that in compressed air.

Nah. there should be something that is pretty inert and stable that could do this, that wouldn't seperate from the air molecules.

this is very true, and makes me feel dumb for not thinking of it (even though i observe this happening every time i play! )

I don't think you're going to be able to do it without particles of something or other in there, and that goes back to the 'dirt' thing.
Now if you added the 'dust' to the breech or barrel during a shot it would spare the guns internals from being gunked up.

well if you have a clear macroline then you could just stick like a little led light at the end of it and turn it on so that the air would appear a certain color

If you used a blowback marker and made it run on a siphon liquid setup you would be almost sure to have a huge cloud of gas when you fired.
Now you just need one of those ultra-bright LED's to turn on and light it up the color you want, just like a nitrous oxide purge valve on a car.
