Can a ceramic barrell (J&J), be sanded and painted? Also, what grit sand paper is reccomended for use sanding metal markers for painting?

Um... I guess it could technically be painted... but I wouldn't do it, just because you might mess up the ceramic coating that makes the barrels so great...

I would follow the 'Painting- How to" guide in this section of the forum.

Be careful not to get any paint inside the barrel through the porting and the ends. I've painted some stock 98C barrels before and what worked was to stuff them full of paper towels to block off the porting from the inside.

The outside of the J&J is already pretty rough, you might be OK with a good cleaning and some good primer instead of sanding. Not sure though.

If you can get away with not sanding your barrel, then go for it! My only primary concern is that by sanding the barrel, you might accidentally damage the coating close to the muzzle and the back end of the barrel, causing inconsistancies. I too have painted a barrel, and masking tape over the threads, paper towel all in the ares of the barrel with the porting, and more paper towel close to the muzzle (so you don't get any paint inside your barrel) will do you good. Try to get NO PAINT inside your barrel, as it messes with accuracy, consistancy and potentially your barrel's bore size if you paint enough (trust me... I know...)

Be very careful to seal the ends and porting. If you get any paint or crap in there, your barrel could suddenly become quite innaccurate, and/or start shredding paintballs.
