Hi all, Im new to paintball and, well, I'll just start at the beginning.
For a few years I've been dancing round the idea of playing paintball, but two main things kept me at bay.
1- hoppers are (in my opinion) pretty damn ugly, not to mention I've always hated gravity-fed systems (no offense to anyone).
2- the inefficiency (either round storage or price wise) with non-hopper markers. I have however checked out the Q-Loader system and it looks pretty sweet.
anyways, I've decided to go for it. now, what with my trying to get away from the seemingly ironed in image of a paintball gun having a huge hopper and no stock, I've decided to build a bullpup style marker with upgrade/replacement parts along with some self-made parts.
being new to paintball, you can see why I'm asking for help.
firstly, a very in-depth description of how a marker operates.
second, I'd need a list of parts you recommend for essentially a firing barrel with a trigger assembly that could be anywhere it wants (like, connected via wires).
as for the body and final assembly, I'll have that covered.
any advice would be great. thanks!
most people modify a paintball marker to fit into an airsoft body. You can also use a wood rifle stock, but I'm not sure that's the look you are going for.
automags and ions are good choices because they're small and you can run hoses to places in order to hide/conceal them. an ion is a better choice because it's got an electronic switch that fires it. makes it easier to mount a triger than having to rig up some elaborate mechanical system.
ok, so i think I've got it planed out as to how the internals will work. I'll use an Ion as a base, and a J&J Ceramic 20" barrel, and a Q-Loader in place of a hopper (this will be inserted into the stock once the full body is on). the full body rather than being a converted airsoft body (limiting my freedom) will be wood, machined by myself. I might cover it in a thin layer of fiberglass or other composite material for durability/protection. The layout I attached in .jpg format.
I've been watching a few "how to dismantle your ion" vids, and I noticed that all the circuitry is in the handle and theres a switch that the trigger contacts there. how would I go about extending this so that I can move the entire trigger assembly forward (see diagram) and have it connected to the rear by only a positive and negative wire?
