I had a friend try to dye his Halo B a grey color, came out a see through cobalt bluish color, looks almost exactly like the cobalt version of the 05 Speed color. It turned out nice.

The longer something is in the dye, the darker it will be stained. So, to make a longer fade you would need to remove the item slowly over a period of several minutes. Or better yet, Lower it slowly over the entire time it is being dyed.

i had a clear java hopper 2 try it on first i had scarlet rit dye and it barely showed up will it actually work on my egg shell i dont wanna mess it up isnt rit fabric dye
Anyway, I wanted to post and say that this method works pretty darn well. The grip frame on my gun is a kind of gray plastic. I bought some Black RIT dye this afternoon and dyed it black and it looks quite a bit better.
I did it this way:
Remove all electronics and metal bits from the thing you want to color. Using gentle soap, clean the item as well as you can. Try to avoid getting fingerprints on it.
Pour the dye into a liter (half-gallon) disposible container full of hot, hot hot water. Either stir or shake this up to dissolve the dye as much as possible.
Fill a stainless steel sink (just above the level you'll need to add color to whatever you're working on) with the hottest water your faucet will deliver. Pour the dye into this sink and stir gently. If there's a lot of dye left in the container, fill it with hot water and pour into the dye "vat" with the rest. Repeat until no more dye comes out.
Now you've got a vat of hot dyed water. Drop your item(s) in, and let soak. Since this water isn't boiling, you probably don't have to worry so much about warpage or distortion.
I left the frame in there for about two hours and it's VERY black now. About halfway through, I put a clear VL200 hopper in, but it didn't take much color probably because the water was no longer hot.
The dye is about $1.50US at Target, so I'm going to get some Brown and Green and make a solid try at woods-ifying my other sparkly clear hopper.
I'll dye them black and hot glue Nor Cal into it and just leave the letters clear or do a second dye in blue.
