i would not suggest dyine a lens..it might weaken it. and if it's a thermal lesn you don't wanna sumberge them anyhow. it gets water between the lenses.
dude, that would b so cool to get a white ion body and dye it white fade to black. and my idea for fading is to slowly lower it into the dye. i might try this w/ a pob, but i cant quite get a spare white body kit for now
that's exactly how you fade it shorty. yeah a with to black ion body would make an ion less...noobish. but I'm wondering if the material it's made ou of would accept the dye. you'd probalyl have to leave it in forever for it to take it in.
guys, i want to dye my smoke egg shells to a dark green sort of colour, any advice you should give me ? im only going to dye the shells not the battery door/lid/raceway/tray, are the shells going to shrink ?
anybody have bad experiences with halo b on this one? do you have to take off the lid before dying? and for the taping off certain sections and stuff. would the dye soak through masking tape and has anybody used the duct tape idea with the checkerS? does it work? anybody who did this to any of their stuff plesae post pics. im INTERESTED!

If your a Christian paintballer put this in your sig.
If you believe in God, and are proud of it, put this in your sig.
Not sure just how old this thread is, but I'm going to add my .02 anyway.
I've been dying plastics for panitball for years (where do you think JT got the idea to do their first colored masks?).
First, not all plastics will accept dye. Not much we can do about this, just accept it. The plastics that take dye the best seem to be, HDPE, white Delrin, vinyl and the clear rubber on the old Flex 7 masks.
Second, not all colors will turn out that great. Red is a hard one to do...I had a lot of stuff that looked orange. Blue, some stuff turned out great while other stuff had a more green tint to it. Lighter colors like yellow were a paint to turn out.
I used clear packing tape as a masking material. I would cut out a design and then lay that over the piece I was dying. It seemed to work pretty well. Props to the person that thought of using hot glue! Wish I'd thought of that.
I made a loft of mistakes that cost me money when I was fooliing around with dye, melted plenty of hopper shells, masks etc. so take your time with this. Keep a close eye on your dye bath and the stuff you have in it. It can go South on you quickly.
As far as dying hoses, yes, you can dye clear hose. It will take the dye VERY quickly and if you're not careful, you'll wind up with a piece of hose that is a lot darker than you want.
Dying goggle lenses, I've done it and they looked pretty cool. Problem is, I was only able to dye 2 lenses and was never able to reproduce my resluts again.
As far as trying to dye a thermal lens, I wouldn't recommend it, you'll just wind up with a single pane lens. Spend the extra money for the colored thermals.
Rit liquid dye was the stuff I used exclusively so I can't tell you anything about the powdered dye.
Be prepared for the worst if you decide that you're going to dye something....chances are you'll wind up with a hunk of melted plastic that barley resembles whatever it was before you stuck it in that pot of hot colored water 45 minutes ago. It happend to me more than once and it can happen to you too if you're not careful.
It should get into the plexi, I would try it on a scrap piece first. Some plastics won't take in much color and it seems others suck it in like its going out of style.

If I dye my spyder electra dx's grips, will it stay?
Like I'm exactly sure considering the grips are plastic and clear.
Like I dont want the colour to fade..
Or if it did, over a long period of time..
So would it possible to dye the plastic grips on it?
I was wondering cause I'm gonna paint the body soon.
Im gonna make it all black and probably a metallicy chrome/ silverish look.
I'll probably paint my halo LED, but maybe dying it would create an interesting effect over the paint. The problem is that if it won't, I don't want to waste my time or ruin my hopper.
I think I'll dye the shell so that the back and sides are clear and the front is black, and then paint it on the inside with acrylics to detail it with black and paint large sections with grey.
The idea is that I can get some colour on it, but not compromise the benefit of having a clear hopper.
My question, then, is...how can I possibly test the plastic of the hopper for dying, and if I do a fade, will I be able to see through it (letting me see to the grey beneath)?
I remember this thread from a long time ago. I'd try this if I had clear shells. I don't recommend dying something unless it is clear, I don't think it would work very well.
well alright. black won't do anything. but if that generic hopper is anything but a solid color it'll dye it. RIT dye even dyes clothing. Azn dyed his tank cover(which was black)
it has to be plastic of cotton (woven fabric other things may suck up dye but i really haven't tried to dye anything other than fabric, hair , or plastic with dye rit (the hair was excess i cut off when i decided that i wasn't born early enough in the 80's to have a mullet)
if it's black there is no point in dyeing you really won't see it
it you want to dye something with parameters ie bolt, pin turn the heat down to a simmer soft plastic applies here masks, thin shell hoppers,
more heat does not "make" the plastic absorb color faster the hotter the water is the more chance you will have of your "product" warping
i think that covers everything
the best option for pods is dying the inside simply pour the "hot" dye in side them avoid watter hotter than like 150 degrees
