hey, i figure i'll try this when after i give my ion a tummy tuck, i'll take some step-by-step pictures of the tummy tuck, and then the before and after of the self painting job - thanks this is really informative... i would have, with any luck, only destroyed my marker trying to paint it myself before! lol

yes it would work on an ion frame, as i have done it to mine
and
no offense "i pwn with ion" its people like you that give the ion the bad name. If u have upped your ion to a high degree then yes, it does "pwn" but if ur talking about a ion thats completely stock, then no. The ion is only the best gat for its price not hte best gat period. I would know as i own one also. I have upgraded mine very much which is
- SP 06 Ion
- Orange Nano Bolt
- CP Shorty
- BlackHeart Board
- CP Blade Trig
- Hybrid 2 Hedlock Clamping Feedneck
- Killa Detents
- 14" .689 Stiffi
- Eclipse QEV
- Dye Membrane Adapter
- Trinity 06 Body
- Custom Painted and Milled frame (from stock)
- Lucky Stage 2 and 3

ok, so i'm doing this, but i wanted to know before i did the clear coat - my marker is still a little sticky to the touch and the paint has been drying for over 12 hours so i'm assuming that's the feel of the paint... i'm using a high gloss paint and it's going to be very reflective already - i just was wondering, before i add the clear coat - should i bake it as well as wet sand it?
i'm kindof afraid of baking it 'cause i dont have the proper tools to take off the gauge without bending it, and it's got a plastic cover and it can possibly warp it...
so yea, i've added all the paint layers and epoxy, now i'm just wondering what i should do from here...

ok, iam so confused.
First off i have a ion with a polished frame, but i want a new look. I'am planning on painting it and on here it says "sand between coats", but that doesnt help me at all. Iam i suppposed to sanded between every primer coat, every paint coat and every clear coat or just certain coats?. Aslo i have removed my psi gauage to polish the fram and i put it back in with RED locktight ( super permanent strengh ), will i break the gauge taking it off? because if i do how do i get it off?

Ok I was wondering is there some possible way I can paint a Spyder Electra Dx

Like alot of parts are that metal thing.
Like around the trigger, the barrel, and basically everywhere around the body..
I was wondering if I could somehow paint over it..
and the purpleish/blue parts a different colour aswell.
Would it be possible?

Anything can be painted.
If you're up to it, that is. The process here mostly deals with metal, remember most of the outcome is decided by the preparation done. Don't rush the project.

Yes, the original directions posted were for painting a paintball marker. Those tend to be made of metal.
Plastic on the other hand, usually requires special 'plastic prep' primer or special paints.

Ok, I'm just restating Skate and Paint's question. Is their a type of primer and clearseal that would work best?
Great thread by the way, my gun's pretty scratched up and I've been wanting to paint my A-5 a dark green and then put the camo stickers on it.

I work in a body shop. An automotive clearcoat such as the one made by PPG is great. Though It's quite pricey. We put them on cars and guarantee them for life. I don't know how much a quart would cost, but it's 180 for a gallon or so. But if you are going to put the time in to paint it, you might as well use the good stuff. Also, Napa sells stuff made by Sherwin Williams in their Martin Senour line. If you go to Oreilley's I'm pretty sure you can get the dupont stuff. And I have a guy I work with who sprays RM clear on his cars and they come out "slick as snot". Just go to your nearest auto body supply store (napa, parts plus) and check their prices. You also may want to check into matrix paint.
Well, I've served my use here. If there are any questions, I'll be checking back in a bit.

Ok, sorry, another question. Can I take the gun apart and take the two halves and paint each one seperatly?
Also, when I sand it down the first time, do I need to sand all the original paint off of the gun or just make it so its got a rough texture?

yes, you can paint the two halves separately, in fact - it's suggested that you do it that way in order to get everything.
also, you should try to get all the paint off the first time, but make sure you put on a primer and what not before you paint it... than later you should sand it just enough to have a rough surface :]
good luck!
