How to: Paint camo
Here is a how to on how to paint your gun, hopper, or anything else. Got this from Crime Dog.
1) Completely disassemble your gun. Take out the interanals and put them aside. (At least, that's what I did for my 98.)
2) Be sure to mask off what you don't want to get paint on...the internal part of the body being the most important.)
3) If it has any sort of anodizing on it (like the black anodizing that the Tippy 98 has), lightly sand it. Don't take it all off, because it will act as your primer coat.
4) Lay down the receiver halves in a "mirror" sort of way.
5) Here's the paint I used: Rustoleum Camoflage spray paint. 3 colors: Khaki, Brown, Olive Green. Also, get a can of clear top coat that has a matte finish.
6) Spraypaint both the receiver halves Khaki. (The tannish color.) That will be your base coat. Not too heavy, not too light. Let it dry for at least a half hour. Then put a second coat on.
7) Next, get your brown spraypaint. My philosophy on the brown is this: Brown will be used to create "branches", just like a tree. Therefore, don't spray "blobs" of brown, spray lines of brown. At the MOST, paint 3 lines. You don't want too much brown.
8) Let the brown dry, and then add a second coat of brown over your lines that you previously painted. Let it dry another half hour.
9) Now for the olive green...Green will be the "leaves" on your marker...therefore you can "blob" the green, instead of painting in lines like you did the brown. Green can be more circular. You're going to get some overspray on your brown which will soften up the lines of the brown, but that's ok, because you're coming back to the brown anyway. Also, make sure you don't cover all the khaki, because you still want some khaki showing through in spots...
10) Let that dry, and then do a second coat of green.
11) If you feel that you covered up too much khaki, "blob" another coat of khaki where you want it.
12) Now, go back over your lines of brown with one more coat. YOu want to have hard edges with the brown, again, because it's like branches...
13) Let that all dry for at least an hour. Then take your clear coat, and spray paint all of the body of your marker that you paint with the clear coat. Let it dry a half hour.
14) Add a second coat of clear coat.
15) And a third if you wish. (After letting the second coat dry of course.)
There ya go. You know have a camo painted marker. It's not really that hard to be honest. If you need, use my marker as a guide for a pattern of sorts... Oh, and I painted my hopper too...same exact process.

sheesh guys, give him a break, it ain't that bad. A pattern like that would actually breakup the outline better than a standard mil-spec woodland pattern because there are no clear lines. Of course, in paintball camo is generally more for looks than function, so from that aspect it might be less than favorable, but I'm just sayin, for a homemade job it could be worse.

not the best Camo job i've seen, I've seen guys air brush in leaves, and do alot better job on that, I rate that a 4/10 job... cause u made the Brown lines too big, the green is over used, and u should have thrown in some back and other colors, and left the kakhi out unless u are doing desert type stuff
I like my guns annoed though

I'm 15. I enjoy stuff like that. Militarymorons is a GREAT site. They review all the newest milspec gear and the guy helped me with some research on MARPAT. I got to converse with one of the two guys that invented the new MARPAT. He actually invented it 6 miles from where I stand now.

^^^^^wtf you were standing when you typed this?!?!?! I always sit when I'm typing or even at my computer at all. lol but whatever floats your boat. I would never paint my gun camo unless I knew for a fact that I would only ever be playing woodsball/scenario ball. Another reason I would paint my gun camo is if I bought a new gun and would only use my old gun for woodsball/scenario ball. because you try getting into speedball with a camo gun and you get ignored.

Great thread. I am painting one of my "other weapons" and used this thread for some tips.....here's the results thus far....
Second coat:
Third coat:
Fourth coat:
First coat clear:
Second coat clear:
EDITED....Steps added:
1. Lightly sanded plastic using 220 grit paper.
2. Cleaned everything with Toulene.
3. Wiped with a tack rag (made by spraying paint onto rag and allowing to set for 10 mins).
4. Painted base coat (dark brown).
5. Applied some leaves(real ones, gathered from my yard) using sticky "tack" made for hanging posters and such.
6. Painted second coat (light green).
7. More leaves.
8. Painted third coat (sand).
9. More leaves.
10. Painted third coat (Dark green).
11. Removed leaves.
12. Three coats of satin clear.
Next I will steel wool, and apply a final coat of satin clear. The paint used was Rustoleum Camo paint, and Krylon Satin clear.
The camo pattern could be more effective. It's really intended to be cosmetic only. The weapon had a heinous looking black plastic stock that I could NOT stand....so I had to change it
