TES - Re-Programming

I just bought a TES and I’ve got a few questions so bare with me. Is there any way to turn on the safety without turning it off and back on. It looses the settings when you power it off. Seems odd that they would not have a safety option on the marker but I can’t find anything in the manual.

I also understand that there is no True automatic mode, but I’d like one. Me and some friends hunt and build Game cameras like you guys paintball. We program out own micro-chip controllers and etch our own PC Boards to do just about anything we want. Many more inputs and outputs than I see required to fire a paintball gun. 1 active output, the solenoid, 1 active input, the trigger, a passive out put, the LCD Screen and two other active inputs the A and B buttons for the menu selection functions. The most complexity will be the LCD outputs.

Here’s my motivation. Mainly just because my 11 year old wants an automatic mode, which will be cool, and If I have to reprogram the chip to get a safety, I might as well get automatic mode too.

It will probably not be cost effective with the LCD screen to consider rebuilding the board, especially for low volume onesy-twosy lots, but re-programming a PIC chip to replace the factory program is entirely possible. We should have a minimum of 2K code storage, (I need to open the marker and get the chipset to verify) so basically memory will not be an issue and we can add whatever we want in the way of firing modes. I’d like to have a :

True Semi. Max settable bps like the Auto function is now
3 shot – 6 shot – burst
a true automatic mode – BPS settable
A simple safety
A counter that will zero at power down.
A second counter that will save the count through power downs and battery changes.
A Third counter that can never be zeroed-

I would also want the marker to save the last mode settings for the next time the marker is activated instead of restoring a set default.

It would be relatively easy to add a secondary pressure switch, like for a laser sight, and when it was depressed and the trigger was pulled, the marker would go into full auto until one or the other was released.

There are tons of fun things a guy could do; the question is what to do. There are also the hidden subtleties that I don’t understand yet, like bounce/de bounce and dwell. How often to check for a trigger pull and what natural limits to impose.

I leave tomorrow for a 14 day hunting trip in Colorado, no phones and for sure no computers so I will not be able to visit this thread for a couple weeks. If while I’m out you guys might share some comments to things I might need to consider and plan for that might save some development time, it’d be great.

If someone has already done this or there are other options to save me the work, please let me know. There won't be a lot of cost involved, but it will take a lot of time.

Thanks for your help.

The gun has a safety already on it, just press the "A" button for about 5 seconds and it will go into electronic safety, press the "A" button again to return to live fire mode. If you really think you know that much about circuits and things I guess you could try to program your own auto fire into it or you could just use a diode like shown here:
Tex's The One Marker/Kit Guide

Read on to the bottom of the first post, you will see how to do the board jumper mod, which will give you auto, aka "Nitro mode."

Thanks for the tip on how to turn on the safety. I can't imagine why they left that out of the manual. That or I missed it 4 times.

I've read about that hack with the diode, but from what I read, there is still no real Full auto, and the eye has to be removed. It would be nice to still have the benifit of the eye to make sure you don't out shoot your loader. Is there somewhere to get a little more info on these modes and the results. Is this a set-up programed from the factory or did someone just happen on to it. I assme if you actually get mode options on the LCD that say Nitro, multi, etc, that it's a factory programmed option that they just don't expose because of tournament rules.

Sounds like it could be what I'm looking for so any additional info would be great. No sence re-inventing the wheel.

I really wish the safety on our gun was just a simple switch. The 5 second button is annoying.

Safty doesnt bother me, tbh.
AEH2 - the reason they dont give all the modes when u buy it (might be torney) so they can charge u $15 for a paperclip!!

There is info in the manual about the saftey... its in the first few pages, well incryped on the 3rd page of text... have the manual next to me . There is a way to make sure u dont out run your hopper... get the Halo B... get the latest board, and drop the BPS to 25.... no probs.

Also, this is one of the places that has the most info on this gun, there is not all that much out there... another place to go is the Dragun Owners Forum:

http://s3.invisionfree.com/DragunOwn...ex.php?act=idx

Good luck on ur quest

OK, Thanks for your patience and help so far, but I'm still confused. I'm trying to unlock the Nitro and mutli modes on my tes and can't seem to figure it out. I have read all I can find and read through Tex's sticky above but I'm not sure whats going on.

I have two TES's and both already have a diode between position 1 and 3 on the board like is shown. If I Remove the diode, then only semi is available. If I take out the eye board and leave in the diode, the gun will fire Full auto in auto mode, but I never see a menu item for nitro or burst when I scroll through the firing modes. Are you supposed to actually see "NITRO" on the LCD.

I also read it was possible to unlock the modes and still use the eye, but I'm not seeing that in reality. Is there and official Dragun document explaining the modes and their operation? If so can someone point me to it.

Also I've read about the T-board. Has anyone got any knowledge about that board and it's operation. It seems like it might do what I'm trying to do and there's no sence to re-invent the wheel.

Thanks again for your help.

for a tes, there is no "nitro mode" or whatever you call it, it only has semiauto and a better version of semi auto called "auto". "auto" is just a more senstive, faster trigger than the semi auto

there is no way to unlock modes without taking the eye board out

for the Tboard read this thread: T-board For Dragun?
