Any way for an oldschool led matrix to converted to lcd? would a new board do it? or new board and lcd frame? curious..or is there internals that would have to be modded or changed?

You would need a new frame. LCD uses the up and down buttons, which are not on the LED frame. You can drill it using 2 drill bits, but it would look half ass.
