Building a Field

Building a Field

NOTE: This isn't a thread on how to open a field, just how to build one. Here you go.

You want to build your own field. So you want a place to practice? Or you're not the kind of person that pays 20 bucks just for field entrance. This guide will guide you on building a field.

Finding a Place To Build

The first thing you'll want to do is think of what kind of field you want to build. If it's a woodsball field, you won't need this guide. All you'll need to do is use the natural cover or make a few small bunkers in less congested areas. But if you want to make your own speedball, will it be for 3, 5, 7, or 10 people to play on? Once this is decided you move on.

Now find a place to build on. Make sure that if it's not your land, you have permission. Make sure that there isn't an houses nearby that can get hit by paint.

Once you have found a place that suites you, now is time to begin the worst part, clearing out your field.

Clearing Out the Area

This is the hardest part, but it will help you the most. If you have a nice grassy area that doesn't have any problems, you're in luck. If not, start by raking threw the area. Take out as many rocks and stones. Do this over and over until you think the field is clear enough. Then rake over some more. Remember to maintain your field's clearness once it's finished.

Making a Plan

What you may want to do is go to a local field, and draw a aerial sketch of a particular setup you like. If not make sure you have plenty of bunkers planned. Think about lanes, think about how you'll want it. Remeber to keep the field symmetrical. Try and switch up bunkers, just make sure you have a variety and that every one can protect you. A sweet fifty won't hurt either. Once you're plan is done, you're almost ready to build.

Gathering Supplies

This is a crucial point in your field. Tires make excellent covers, they're almost like legos so you can make variety of bunkers. Local tire stores will give you old tires.

If you can't get any old tires, then the next best thing is pallets. You can get them behind grocery stores, at construction sites, just keep your eyes open. Once you get them, get a thin pieces of wood then nail it to it.

If you can't get any of these, get whatever you can. Be sneaky and go around on trash night and take any old tables or anything that would be good cover, throw it in the back of your truck, and use it on your field

Building the Field

Finally, you have reached the final part of your field, building it. Use your plan and set up the bunkers. Don't make something if it won't last. Pack dirt to the sides of your bunkers. It will help them from falling.

Build up the field and you're good. You may want to play on it then make changes. Don't hesitate to. Eventually you'll have a great field. Just put a lot of work into it.

I have about an acre of field and I want to build a paintball course on it. I have a few bunkers set up but I need ideas for bunkers besides tires and pallets. (Note:anything nearby can and probably will be able to get hit).
So I need just a few ideas . . .

newtopaintball-The range of a gun is soemthing like 150 feet, try and get it around that much so there is a 0% chance of hitting the house.

gavint-Try and make all the bunkers so a person can be exposed if another person plays right. Make sure they're sturdy. Tires really come in handy.

Something you might want to look into is stuff from a junk yard.

You can get trashed out car/truck parts that could add all kinds of things bunkers, decoration (a couple old mufflers stick stick out the top off a bunker).

best pice of car junk to field pice was an old transmission case used as the base of the flag pole

EDIT:
Just be sure to file down any sharp corners, cutting your self on a rusty muffler is not fun,
