I Am Opening A Field, Need Feedback!!!

Of the following how much would you pay per year for a membership:

-Unlimited Entry
-Unlimited Air
-40%-50% below retail prices on all purchases
-BYOP(bring your own paint) or field paint at 30%-50% less than retail
-Unlimited ReBall use on Team Practice nights.
-Jersey with Team Millenium logo on the front, your name on the back, and be under the sponsorship of Millenium Paintball(benefits of membership would be your sponsorship)
-Bring in 10 people under your referral, next years membership free; 5 people, 50% off; 3 people 25% off..
-$30 rental for mask, hopper, gun, and tank(Dye Proteus, VL Revvy, Impulse, and 68/4500 tank).
-All purchases done in store through on-line kiosk or at home from you computer online to avoid sales tax
-Year end tourney(open division....no pros)for Entry fee to an NPPL, PSP, or Xball event the following year, most likely whatever event is closest to the location of my field, haven't chosen which state or city to setup shop in yet.....possibly travel and partial paint payed for as well.
-Highest referring member recieves gun of his or her choice at $600 price range or same amount in gear.(remember...wholesale. So you wouldn't be limited to like a shocker...some Timmies, Etek Ego, Proto Trix and others at that price range wholesale.)
-1 repair repair free of charge for labor per week, and you just supply the parts.

This is not all I have and it will extend to more benefits as I work the numbers, but I NEED FEEDBACK. SERIOUSLY...IF SOMEONE OFFERED THIS TOO YOU HOW MUCH WOULD YOU SPEND. NO CHEAPSKATE ANSWERS. WITH ENTRY FEES AND AIR AND FIELD PAINT PRICES THIS IS SAVING YOU WELL OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS IF YOU PLAY YEAR ROUND. THAT COULD BE THE GUN OR GEAR YOU ALWAYS WANTED BUT COULD NEVER AFFORD. FEEDBACK!!!

I ran one shop in Lacey, Washington(one hour south of Seattle) and I learned that marking up products doesn't really do you all that much good. Because once you try to make money on your mark ups as your main source of cash flow, you have to have an excellent marketing plan.

So in the end you up having to market with the hopes that your dependency on mark ups pays off. When I personally just feel that the financial security of upfront cash whether that membership gets used or not will benefit me more in the long run. Plus, I want to do it for the kids. I understand what it means to have to "mortgage the farm" just to play as much as you want.

I want to stimulate growth in the paintball market. As long as the business pays for itself and gives me a little cash that is all I want. People also forget that if you can run this successfully, while you won't have as much income, you will put everybody else in your local and surrounding markets out of business. Then you own it all and the sacrifice of not having all the cash is worth it. Self-sustaining assets in the long run make big bucks and allow you to do so without ripping your customers off. High volume leads to bigger and better things.

Thank you for your input thus far.

yeah, i totally agree. its kind of my dream to own a field and shop if and when i get together enough capital. think about implementing a good source of food, such as a small "restaurant" type deal where customers can buy cheap food that isnt junk. this will help you gain major points in the eyes of your customers because its convinient. it will also be another source of income for you.

yes, i do believe that volume is better than having a smaller amount of people paying more. what you are planning to do is build a solid customer base. people who buy memberships will feel tied to your field becuase they already paid. therefore they wont go to other fields....genius.

the more people can afford it the more theyre gonna play.

definately make sure you get a good staff; people that love the sport and know what theyre doing. that is key.

what are your hours going to be like?

and yes, i believe that it is better to do something you love, and spread that love, even if you dont make a ton of cash. always more rewarding.

So your saying a person would get 50% off for a new gun? free reballs to use and a huge discount on paint? free jersey, tournament entry fee and if you refer a lot of members you get a brand new gun? I would easily pay $500 for that.

I'd say 400-500. That's a pretty ridiculous package (ridiculous being good ).

-maybe make a smaller package that includes free addmission and some other stuff for less, for people that cant afford to drop $500 all at once. My field does free addmission, wholesale on eveything(other then paint), and some other smaller stuff(air is free w/ addmission anyway) for 150.

-Deffinitly get some cheaper rentals, most rental groups wont like spending that much. The field i work at will rent a basic(tippmann) setup for $5 and a higher end one(ion and revvies) for $20.

-In my opinion, cleanliness is very important for a field in the staging areas, store, and field. Most first timers expect a field to be cleaner then most are. For some reason ive only seen a couple halfway decently clean bathrooms at any of the fields ive been to, id make that a priority.
