Opening a field/shop?
Ok Im 18 years old...4 months left of high school. I just got access to 107 acres of farmland and woods with a fairly new clubhouse/garage and large 2 story log cabin which I have the option to move into. The area I like in has no woodsball fields or even a fairly decent good speedball field for 50+ miles. I was thinking after high school, get a small business loan, convert the clubhouse into a proshop and open a field/shop.
There is not a single shop around here that does milling, Ive been milling and painting some of my friends tippys for some time now. The guys who do mod guns around here do sloppy jobs, and I dont feel they know what they're doing, not to say Im a master, butI wouldn't trust them with one of my markers.
Is this something worth giving a try? If so, whats needed? Good wholesale places? Id like to have everything drawn up on paper before I actually gave it a real good thought.

Ive taken 2 Business Computer Application courses...micro-economics, which we got to make up an 'imaginary business' and run it for 90 days. In which I kept a A-average with a car modifcation shop. I think I could handle it...

you can work with companies too...my friend is looking into gettin a deal with PMI for paintballs...just contact some companies and tell them your situation and everything and they can give you special rates for guns, tanks, paintballs, etc.

Are you planning on doing speed only, woods only, or both? You can buy field starting kits that have chrono, some ref gear, rental gear, and things like that. Just pick up a PB magazine and look through it, I see at least one field starting kit ad every magazine I read. You should contact some companies and talk to them about it and see what they can do as far as shop owner prices. Also, if I remember correctly, I think paintbug owns a field, so you might want to talk to him.

Make sure to get insured. Thats really important. U may want to partner up w/ someone so u have enough money to keep it alive. Like money to buy paint, pay wages, purchase rental guns and guns to sell. After a bit u'd start to make money, but i think if u did it alone u'd use up a loan quick.

I don't know a whole heckuva lot about running a PB buisness, however pretty much every field I've ever been to has an account with National Paintball Supply, and it was probably there first account. They seem to have alot of experience with entry field owning and operation I would give them a call.

Go to action villages and for 2,500 you can get a 5 man field. With doritos and cyclinders and the whole nine yards. And in this magazine Pb2x you can get 10 Tippman model 98's for $1950 or a A-5 10 of them for $2500 or a Silver bullet 10 for $1900 or a mongoose 10 of them for $1700 or a icon e for 10 $1700 or a Diablo Sabotage 10 guns for 1100 or finally a Rebel 02 Bottom Line 10 guns for $1300 aslo a tippman procarbine 10 for $2195. Either package comes with everything u need. Look in Paintball 2 extreames February 2005 edition. They all come with 10 guns.

Okay, if you are serious about opening a field then you need to do a lot of research. I suggest taking some classes down at PTI. (Paintball Training Institute) You should look into the size of the population that is around you. You said that there isn't any competition for 50 miles so make sure that you have a decent population to market to within that 50 miles. There are a lot of things to consider when starting a field that I would gladly help you with. I just opened up my own indoor field on the 1st of the year. You can check us out at www.kersplatpaintball.com to check out what we have going so far. Good luck to you man!

I would love to do this too but it's really just a dream for me. I am from southern Ohio and I live in Los Angeles now. But I swear I could sell my house here and take the profits and move back....buy another house with cash and then have about $100,000 to start a paintball business.....I know I could do it.(Home prices here have skyrocketed) Anyway just exactly how much would you need to start one up if say I wanted to have about 4 fields? There are no good fields from what I hear within 30 miles of my hometown.

WEll if your oging to do this, look back for a post I made. I made some quick calculations, adn even with cheap prices, for a field on land like you described, you could pull in a good quarter million if you have 30 peopel a day.
Just remember, BYOP is a necessity. Adn Don't destroy too much of the foliage. And make one speedball field, maybe two depending on how much area.
IF I ever get out of the Marine Corps, thats what I'm going to do. If not open up a field, at leas topen a small shop.

I was thinking of putting say a 3man field next to a 5 man field then if I wanted to expand into a 7man field I would just open up the netting between. It would probably be a combination between tubes and air bunkers??????? Just ideas really it would be hard to get the wifey to agree to do something like this. But if we come on hard times here in LA I could always do this I suppose.
Where is that thread you are talking about?

a friend on my team's parent wants to open a field near me and i learned a lot about what you need...just some things to keep in mind...
National Paintball Supply is your friend
Insurance is a *****, at least for 18 year olds...
You need lots of advertising
You need a woods field (to bring in the uber 1337 snipers)
Start with hyperball for a speedball course (plywood is your friend)
Good Xball field= $5 grand+
You need employees, thats say $7 an hour for X hours a week...
You need a WELL kept building.
You need an airmith/gun tech
You need netting
You need permisison from the county/city
You need to file a business name and fill out a zillion papers
Check the laws
You need to probably get together with at least one other person to help you w/ this
You need an air compresser
A well stocked pro shop is a healthy pro shop
BYOP is a must on at least ONE DAY...
A local field charges $15 for admission+ADA and byop everyday...and their field paint prices are anywhere from $50-$70
Another field charges $15 for "TEam practice" (basically play on airball all day) and all day air, plus you can byop BUT if you buy THEIR paint, it's $5 off admission.....as for the woodsies/rec its $10 entry+ADA and $70 a case MANDATORY....yeah, thats where they make their money. PM me if you need any more ideas
