After some confusion, both quests are again functional!!
So I finally decided to fix my other Quest. it's only been setting there for 2 months beside the oring kit and toolbox waiting.
So I replace all the orings (just to be sure, I did buy this used, so probably needed it) and gave it a good lubing and such. Put it together, air it up. No leaks. YAY. Then I look at the lpr gauge. ~110-120. Back it off to 90 psi, and the lpr is almost coming out. @#%^!%!
Tear it apart, check oring and lpr piston, relube, put back together. Air up, same. Shoot it a few times at 90psi. FSDO, shootdown, you name it. Up it to the 110-120, shoots GREAT. de-gas it. Gauge still sets at about 25-30 psi. Well, that would explain why it shot so bad at 90 psi...it was actually getting probably 60, in the cold!!
lol nice, though i don't think you need the gauges. First off, you have to remeber that it was cold. Second, your quest will have to run at a higher PSI for a while untell the o-rings are broken it. Usually 1000 to 2000 shoots. At least thats what it takes mine.
I run my quest at 110 psi right after changing O-rings and then I get it down to about 85 or 90 for normal operation.
I probably don't, but if there's a gauge on there, I want it to be working correctly. I also was just wasting some old paint, the new Dye Rotor works WONDERFULLY on the Quest!
I also need a 300 psi gauge on the Mini, as the original 600 psi gauge makes it impossible to tell when I've tried to go too low on pressure and I'm forced to constantly test it to know. So the working 300 psi gauge will come off the one Quest and replace the 600 psi gauge on the Mini.
The one gauge I know isn't, the other isn't so much BAD, as misaligned. When at 0 pressure, it sets at 30 psi. It seems to still measure accurately, it's just you have to adjust whatever it says by ~30 psi to be correct.
So my gauges came in, got the one installed to replace the messed up gauge. I was reading ~120 on that gauge, I can now tell you it's set at ~83 psi. Yes, the CP 160 psi gauges are THAT good that you can get that accurate of a measurement from them. AWESOME $15 upgrade for a Quest. I highly recommend it for anyone who really loves to know what the actual pressure they're running is.
Saw on the nation, Bronc is planning on relaunching FEP in 2009 too...so might want to hurry...If he does and he starts making parts and supporting the original Quests again, they might stop losing value hand over fist.
