Save yourself some pain
Koss,
This is question is pretty popular and gets asked frequently by new players. Let me see if I can save you some grief.
1) Because this question gets asked 300 times a day on all the PB forums in the world, you don't need to stick around this post for an answer. Just start searching the forums. You'll find this question answered pretty regularly.
2) Before you go out an spent $300 bucks, make sure that you've played enough to be sure that you'll stick with it. That's a lot of cash for a marker to sit on the shelf.
I had a buddy that spend about that much buying a marker and gear for his B-Day. He used it once, decided he didn't like it and sold it for a loss.
3) If you decide that you like it enough to buy the equipment. Make sure that you consider equipment as well as the marker. If all you have is $300 bucks to your name and you spend $299 on a marker. You now have a buck left over for your mask. That would suck!
4) Consider buying used if you're trying to stretch your money. Sometimes you can find a deal.
5) With that said, my personal recommendation for just starting out would be a Tippmann C98. I've heard other people say that a spyder is a good starter gun too, but I've never played with one. Why a Tippy?
They're tough as hell. You wont break it. It plays in just about any weather. Heck, if you run out of paint, just beat people with it.
Good Luck! Have Fun!

If this is your fist foray into the wonderful world of paintball-equipment-buying, keep in mind youll need a tank, mask, hopper, and sooner or later, upgrades for your gun. If all you have is $300 for your entire equipment setup, you better be prepared to buy used, or save up some more cash if you plan on buying a decent gun (ie the ion or wrath suggested)

very nicely put mighty JB i would also suggest buying a revvy, i know theres some for sale on here for pretty cheap used. because if ur playin rec, u gotta switch up the modes on the gun everynow and then, and a gravity feed hopper just wont cut it. unless you have eyes (vision) on your gun..

like said before get a gun that will allow you to get extra equipment
id suggest a 98c if you like woodsball, or rec playing. it has a side feed, it is very low maintience, cheap, and very customizable, (id also get a J&J ceramic barrel with it)

Get a spyder because the kits are cheeper than tippmann's
DO NOT buy any cheep canadian tire or wallmart crap (well actually wallmart in Canada seems to be selling spyders now ) Pick up a 9oz tank, a hopper and a mask and you should have just about spent your $300.00.
Remember folks he said $300.00 CANADIAN! (and PB stuff is more expensive up here than it is down there)

wal-mart here has several imagines sitting on the wall.....thats one of aout 4-guns they actualy sell LOL
if youve never played before, i recommend getting a mechanical spyder. there extremely easy to make electric. a step up from that would be the imagine

the number 300 can only be associated with getting an ion and nothing else.

dude i got into paintball a while ago and my first and only gun is a spyder victor II. it shoots hard and is pretty acurate. there are alot of upgrades you can do. the only down fall is if you play in tournaments it shoots to hard so you will need to get a shorter spring or clip the one you have. other than that the gun is about 60-70$ you can get a mask on ebay for about 20 shipped, and get a tank from walmart. i know that the fire dept. here will fill CO2 free!! read up some on the forum for barrels and paint matching too.

when i got my e99 it was the second time i played and i had no clue how to turn it down luckly the pople at the field were nice and helped me. I would get a spyder, good, easy somewhat fast if you get an electro. thats just my two cents.

I'd go w/ a Imagine..Or if you want a mech gun a TLR..Imagine (108$ US, TLR 90$ US)..Pick up a 20 oz c02, hopper(if you get imagine a electro hopper would be good), mask, and a barrel, and you'll be set..
My 1st gun was an Imagine,20 oz c02, Empire II hopper, and a Teardrop barrel..I liked it..
