Ion vs.Spyder Fenix. Help. newb question

Hi guys,
I'm coming back into paintball after maybe 7 years?? My son is now 11 and I'm giving up an old Tippman to him and I'm going to get a new gun. I'm looking at the Ion, but the guy at the paintball store said to consider a Spyder Fenix. I was never a Spyder fan, but.....
I'm considering an auto cocker but I can't see me having the time to tinker, figure out and generally keep it running.
I looked throught the forum and didn't find what I was looking for. I'm sorry if this question is redundant.
Dave

Yes, slighty redundant. Okay, spyders are all the same, inside they all work in the same way etc. Now, a gun like a ion is a electropneumatic gun (specifically a spool-valve version) It basically uses a selinoid to push the air around, moveing the bolt etc. This way it moves the parts only by air, really brining down the kick from the gun. Making accuracy a little better.

The ion is better b/c it has eyes (detect paint, stop chops) and has less kick (b/c electro-pneumatic) both are very quick, but the ion will be a little more stable when shooting fast. Now, ions can ONLY run on hpa (a high pressure tank is fine) If u don't know about hpa, check the air systems forum, good stick on the topic.

if you dont have time to tinker with stuff, dont get the ion. to do basic maintenance you have to tear apart the whole gun and unplug everything. if you do not do this to clean it (the manual recommends every 2000 shots) you will have alot of problems.

and an autococker will work fine as long as you dont mess with it. if it isnt broke, DONT TOUCH IT, and it will be good for many, many days of paintball

the only maintenance it really needs is pulling out the bolt pin, sliding the bolt out and lubing it up, then put it back in. every 8000 shots or so you should drop 2-3 drops of oil in your asa to keep the internals in good shape. thats about it.
