Higher end markers...
hey guys.. wassup...
it seems to me like all these higher end pneumatic guns are getting soooo much attention and play...
i currently own a spyder, my first marker, but no, i dont really consider myself a n00b at the sport or technology, and i know a lot of markers inside and out. and i do know that with the right resources, you can get a so-called "crappy" "****ty" spyder to rip, a lot faster than a few higher ends on the market today.
so why go for the most expensive thing out there (dm5 maybe) [dont get me wrong, really nice gun to have] when you can take a crappy used spyder compact 2000 acquired for $20 bucks and upgrade the hell out of it?
just some random thoughts.

search, there are several multi-paged threads exactly about this...
looks, speed, reliability, consistency, etc.... i dont care how much u upgrade a spyder, it will never perform like a timmy, unless u put timmy parts on it.... Back in Bad Company's hay day people would say 'they are pro and use spyders....' those were not spyders, they were timmys in spyder bodies.... look at a picture.... same eye covers, frames, bolts, feed necks, even the same regulators!

No matter how much you "soup up" your spyder, you will not rip a lot faster than a high-end gun, like you put it.
By the time you get enough ups to be half-way decent, it is still just a spyder...
...and yes... SEARCH!!!

Sure u may be able to get it to cycle at the speeds the high end guns do. But it will have so much more kick, AND even a halo will have trouble getting balls to feed. Also, spyder triggers blow, and i just hate that frame.

By the time that you modified your spyder to compete with the big boys you could have bought a used high end gun.

For future referance, to anyone who thinks upgrading a spyder/tipmmann enough will eventually result in a "high end" preforming gun, please actually shoot a real high end gun.
You may think your gun shoots nicely, but then go shoot a nice gun and prepare for an erection.
We can list how a soyder/tippmann can never be top preforming guns, but you will never understand until you shoot a decent gun.

QFT.
You don't understand how a gun can get better than what you already have, but then you shoot a nice gun, like chrome said, and well... he put it well.

Imho Spyders and Tippys dont really fall under the same class... People buy Tippys for woodsball, and Spyders for... well... speedball? Though they arent the fastest guns, someones gotta start somewhere.
So what exactly is a high-end woodsball gun? I would say Tippmann, since they pretty much make their guns FOR rec play, not exactly something you would take onto a speedball field since their length and weight.

Really. I don't know where everybody gets this Idea that high end markers aren't for the woods. It's not something you're going to see very often since most people with high end guns play speed almost exclusively, but there wouldn't any problem with taking a shocker, angel, etc. into the woods. High rof is great for cutting through brush, and a compact marker helps you tuck tighter no matter what kind of bunkers you're behind. Plus upper end markers tend to be much quieter, another obvious advantage in the woods.

I know. Who wouldn't want a nice, fast, light good looking marker to go play in the woods?
A high end woods marker would be a mag. Those things don't fare well in speed.

Back to the first post, spyders will work for rec. , but it may not be enough for serious tourney play.

Mags don't farewell in speedball. I don't see why not. They can be just as light as any other high end electro and they have plenty of speed and they're small making it easier to tuck.

slap a ULT on your mag and you have a marker that can shoot 17 bps and upward without bounce... and its a mechanical, making it more realiable than most electronic markers, where if your eyes are dirty your gun wont even fire. put a lvl 10 on and you have a mechanical anti chop solution. No eyes to clean, no batteries to charge or replace, no boards to worry about. RT valves are the fastest recharging valves in the world. you will NOT experience shootdown when using a mag, peroid. The only obvious disadvange i can see is the shortstroking... but people use mech cockers in speedball also, and you learn not to shortstroke anyway.

Mag=heavy trigger pull. That's their only fault.
