I own the spyder MR1 but dont really like it for two reasons:
1)i cannot really customize it that much.
2)it has no form of anti-chop and chops like i ***** in cold weather.
I play woodsball at a course me and my mates built and the place is fairly small.
I live in new zealand so I am pretty limited to what i can buy.
what i can get is pretty expensive so i stay fairly cheap.
i am deciding between tippmann A-5(about $400) and the smartparts SP 1(about $300) or of course you guys could tell me about decent upgrades to the spyder MR1 that could keep me from chopping.
Go with the SP1 I've seen them used in temperatures of -20C and they work alright. The SP1 is also the best value for the money a simple design, anti chop system that works, a nice light trigger pull and a speedy 11bps. The A5 is bigger, heavier and has that irritating cyclone feed.
ehh dude i have the a5, pretty good and coincidentally my friend has the Sp1. it works pretty well, although note that there are no sights for the sp1, so dont expect to be doing any long range shooting, also because the barrel sort of 'sinks in' to the gun before screwing in
-hope this helps

so what gun are you recomending (i use CO2 just so every one knows).
i like marksman/sniper quite alot but in the course i play in it is pretty tight so i normally have to run and gun as well. out of the two what do you think will do the best at both???
The SP1 takes CO2, so you're fine.
All paintball guns shoot the same distance (so everyone is a sniper! )
Sniping in paintball is most likely not what you'd expect it to be
The SP1 has a low force bolt so you could get away with a gravity feed hopper for a while. For a cheap hopper I'd go with a Viewloader Revolution the SP1 is capped at 11bps and the revvy feeds 12bps that should be all you'll need.
I've owned an A5 and my brother uses an SP1 I bought him and the SP1 is a much better deal. While the A5 is capable of higher speeds the modifications required to actually reach those speeds costs nearly the same as the A5 itself. The gimmick of the A5 is the cyclone which replaces an agitated/force feed hopper however it is also the part on the A5 most likely to break taking you out of the game for the day. If you want sights and scopes and stuff like that the SP1 is covered in rails you can easily add an offset sight if you so chose.

well as someone else said, all guns shoot the same length, unless you get the flatline barrel($79?) for the A-5, which increases the range from 150 feet to 250 feet. The A-5 will run on co2 as well. Also if you get a resonse trigger or and e- grip, you will be able to run and fire very quickly. howver, i dont have either of these on my a5 and i still do pretty well

sorry but i forgot 2 mention that laws in new zealand restrict me to semi auto. no select fire or e-grips with multiple fire modes for me. flatline in NZ costs about $155 and a R/T is close to $100 (its insane). i also run on a remote which i have been told kind-of works as expansion chamber.
one last qeustion on SP 1. after reading reviews and going on smartparts website i hear that the marker stops firing once it gets 2 cold and vents it out the bottom of the reg. in winter i play in sub zero temp (C') how badly would i be affected here?
very badly. co2 does not expand rapidly in cold weather. this will lead to most of it venting out and you also not get a hihg enouhg pressure to ever get the marker to fire if your'e really unlucky.
