Need help picking a gun.

I asked this same question in another forum and was kicked out so I hope I can ask this here. Im pretty new to paint ball, but Im looking to buy a new maker. I have 3 to choose from and here they are 08 ego, 09 proto rail, and proto PM8. I know that they are a wide range of prices and the max I want to spend is $1100. So my question is is the ego worth that much more and why? I really love all the color options there are with ego and I am a fan of anything that is limited edition (i know i should not make a choice just for that reason). Any help would be great. TIA

If you're serious about playing tournament plaintball get the ego. It isn't worth $1100 but it's close. It's a great gun and you'll be impressed with it's preformance. PM8 is a great gun too, and I heard the new one is getting good reviews, but if you're going to go ahead and spend that much, a few hundred more for an ego might be worth it.

BUT if you are just planning on playing at your local field seriously consider the Rail. They're fantastic guns for the price plus the '09s got a fixer upper from their plastic parts predecessors.

If you're considering the ego then check this out. It's an '08 ego for $950.

Goodluck

hold on there, if your new like you say NONE of those markers will suit you well, the reason being, they are made for someone with experience, what it looks like your trying to do is buy a ferrarii for your first car.

if you do have some experience and you have worked with electos before then sure, otherwise i suggesst looking into more of a budget electro (vs2 for example) something you can tinker with and get to know before jumping to a high end marker

Thanks for the info. As of right now I am just playing at the local fields, but I would like to in the near future get into tourney play. Is there really much of a performance difference between the 09 rail and a ego?

Yes, there is a performance difference between the '09 Rail and the Ego. Thus the reason more pro teams aren't using the Rail instead of the Ego. But really, the Rail is a great gun and of the 3 you listed it's probably going to be the best choice for you.

But, and this is strictly a but, if you're super serious about playing in real tourneys and getting better at the sport you could buy the Ego. Reason being: if you spend $400 (I don't know what that new Rail's price is) on a Rail, fall in love with elecrto paintballing and start to take it seriously then you might not be able to afford the Ego having just bought a $400 gun. But to own a high end electro for your first gun I HIGHLY recommend that you become a student of the sport on every level. Go to your local shop and as, ask, ask questions about electros and soak up every piece of info you can get. Read the manual completely and live by it.

But only do that if you are seriously serious about getting into tournament paintball. Because in the long run, if you can afford it, getting the best gun possible is always a good idea if you're going to really get into the sport.

But also consider what trbo said, a lower end electro is a good place to start if you're not sure how serious about PB you want to be.

^^ agreed with the being a student of the sport

AHH! i almost forgot the most important thing!

make sure your shop carries parts for whatever marker you want before going out and getting it, theres no point in buying a marker you cant get parts for localy. buying a $2 part online, paying $5 in shipping and waiting a week isnt fun, whereas going to the shop, buying it for $2 and maybe getting some advise is much better

Wow, thanks for all the great info. I have some thinking to do, but from what you have said and what I have read im leaning to the PM8. Its good to get a honest answer and not be kicked off for asking a question. Once again thanks and I will be here for a while.

PM8's are FANTASTIC markers. Next to my o3m, it's my favorite.
