I've gone paintballing at local field and rented a tippman 98c. Local sports store has multiple packages with it, with and w/o act (which is what?). The w/o act has a twenty oz tank. Also, there are multiple spyder packages including a Sonix package (not the '09) with everything. Any reccomendations??

Are you planning on playing paintball for a while?
200 isn't going to get you much but this is what i'd go for.

That leaves you about $90 to spend on a marker. I'd go for a spyder vs1 and get a clamping feed neck from actionvillage.com too.
If you get the vs1 used from ebay(or look at the b/s/t on the forum here) the whole thing should come out to about 200.

If your planning on playing for a long time, i'd save up and get your gear one by one. Like...

Then get your marker after you get the money.

that is pretty good, but you should just get a stock ion for about $170 you will be better off with a fast durable gun.

wow, A) thats pretty much his whole budget on the marker alone, how do you expect him to play with no tank, hopper or mask?
B) while it is fast it is nowhere near durable, the design of it pretty much makes sure you will break something while doing maintanance, also plastic parts = things that break, and while these are not super expensive it sure is annoying to have to stop playing because a banjo fitting is now leaking

if he is looking into an ion at all he should be looking into the XE but that is even more out of his price range

stick with the spyder, they are great entry level markers that can run on co2

DbOne or pwesley both have great ideas up there, personally i would go with the used vs1 over the sonix, just look around ebay and im sure you can find one for $90 in great condition (now that i think of it you may even be able to get remanufactured ones for that)

you can get everything you need under a hundred bucks on ebay....

i bought a tippmann 98, a mask, a hopper, a tank, and a 14" barrel for about 80 bucks shipped, there are tons of steals on tippmanns

My personal recamendation is to buy from a local paintball shop. There prices maybe a little higher than on-line but then you have someone to stand behind the marker. Most shops if not all, offer to repair gun bought from them for free or at a very reduced price. The shop can also make sure your getting everything you need to play and can help you in the future.

If you're planning on getting into paintball, it NEVER hurts to get to know your local shop.
