Spyder 09 Xtra vs 09 Victor

Hello all,

I am looking to purchase a new mechanical marker if I can sell my VS2. The question is, which of the above should I go with. I like the Xtra, but the only advantage I can see is the expansion chamber and the clamping feedneck, for $40 more than the Victor. Now I plan on modding the gun slightly: Aftermarket barrel, upgraded bolt, upgraded striker, and possibly a regulator. So my thinking is that I should spend $40 less on the victor and use that money for some of the modifications. Am I on the right track here? What am I missing?

Is the use of a regulator even practical on these low end guns?

To help, I am strictly woodsball and I only play 7-8 times a year. I would like to be able to go between my 72/3000 tank and CO2 if 72/3000 would run out.

Thanks,

Zack

first why do you want to sell your VS2 ? In every case this is a downgrade from what you have.

That said, both will perform about the same, and like you said, the xtra only add the foregrip and the expansion chamber, which help to reduce liquid Co2 from reaching the internals. The sonix could be a nice choice, it got the foregrip, but not the expansion chamber.

Now let's talk about upgrades : IMHO there's no point to upgrade thoses markers that much. This get really expensive fast, and for that investment, you're just better with a more expensive marker.

In your situation, check at the new electra '09 : it got the new SE technology which means it can run Co2 at much lower pressure than regular spyders, no really much more than the VS2 (300psi vs 200Psi for the VS2). This means you'll find as much smoothness than the VS2, with the possibility to run Co2 as well.

Think 'bout that

The SE Valve Technology is actually just the old style Spyder valve with high flowing parts
Won't be as smooth as the G3 Balance Valve but will be able to run CO2 safely.

And why not just keep the VS2 like Weever said? It's better than both the mechs you stated and the Electra.
It can even run CO2 on the VS2 if you dual regulate it (keep the ASA reg on and add a reg to the VA). I've done so with my VS2 using a Dye Hyper 2 and the stock ASA reg and it shot flawlessly

Doesn't even need a palmers or an anti-siphon, though it would probably be better if I did use those

I would love to keep the VS2 but I have several reasons for wanting to get rid of it.

My experiences with the VS2 include. Not thinking about taking the battery out after charging it, then driving the hours to our camp in Kentucky, only to get the gun out to play and the battery be dead. Since the camp did not have any power, I had to try and charge the gun with my power inverter plugged in to the DC outlet on my ATV. Got it charged a little after missing about 1/2 hour of playing, shot about 500 rounds and the battery died again. I charged it some more, shot about 300 more rounds and then I was out of air in both of my N2 tanks. So I missed another hour of playing because I did not want to take my back up guns out of the hands of my friends who were playing with them.

The second experience was a little better, I had the battery charged and removed prior to playing, but I still only got 800 shots, while my friends are able to refill the C02 and play all day.

In addition, I just do not enjoy the hassles of playing electronic markers. Babysitting the battery, misfires from bumping the sensitive trigger, having to turn the marker on and find the setting for turning the eyes off just to uncock the bolt after cleaning. These several little things just make the gun not enjoyable to me.

Yes, I may be getting rid of the better gun, but the small hassles I am encountering make the gun somewhat of a pain to me, so therefore it is not a better gun for me. Different strokes for different folks.

Thus the search for mechanical marker.

Thanks,

Zack

With the electra you don't have to think about batteries, just keep some replacements of regular 9V : the board is design to operates correctly with a regular 9V.

If you still want a mech, I'd get a Sonix, or a Tippmann 98c. I'd go with the sonix first because it's much more easy to clean.

Think 'bout that
Ok, so now you guys have me looking at the Electra.....

So would I be able to go from N2 to CO2 without changing out springs get the velocity up or down?

Adding a reg at the vertical adapter on the VS2 should allow me to run CO2? Theoretically?

Help me out on a Palmers or Anti-Siphon.... Helps keep the liquid CO2 out I take it?

You will have to excuse me, I am not up on all of the stuff out there.

Thanks,

Zack
