If I were you, I'd wait and save up some more money. That way you can buy an HPA tank and then get whatever marker you want. If your the impatient type (myself) you could go with the ICD Setup I suggested. I've owned a Tippy and in no situation I can think of it would have an advantage over any of the guns in my sig (-Azodin) even if they had $1000 in upgrades. Also, not completely positive on what you mean by sniper but, there are no snipers in paintball.
let's break this thing down. As far as getting a good gun goes, I'd say upgrade your sonic a bit before you decide to toss it and get a new gun. If you've only played a little bit, there's no real reason to spend a lot of money on a new gun if you don't know how much you will be playing.
Biggest thing to be concerned with, IMO, is accuracy. it doesn't matter if you throw out 50 paintballs per second, if they all hook like a curveball, you aren't gonna hit your target anyways; all you'll do is give away your position, waste a ton of air/paint, and become frustrated. Accuracy is determined by 3 main things;
1) Barrel Quality
2) Paint Quality
3) Air Consistancy
Basically, if you get a good barrel that is a set diameter, and you match it with good paint that is a set diameter (rather than crappy paint, which will swell and not be as accurate)you will be in far better shape than you are right now. Also, as far as air is concerned, I definitely suggest getting an air tank, even if it is the cheap $50 ones off e-bay (non-fiber wrapped) and a cheap skin for it. That will help with air consistency a good bit. A good regulator is where you'll really see the accuracy changes (if you have a bad regulator, it won't maintain a steady pressure, which means each shot is coming out at a different speed). Your goal is to make every shot end up in the same place as the last. Once you get that down, then I would be concerned about bps.
Also, invest in a good, anti-fog mask. Trust me when I say this; even if you have to hold off on upgrades for a while, it is very much worth it. You can't shoot what you can't see, and if you can't see anything...your day of paintballing is gonna suck.
Also, all the upgrades (sans the barrel) can be taken off the sonic and onto a new gun if you so choose to get one at a later date. And if it's a spyder marker or a gun with spyder threads, you can use the barrel as well.
These are my two cents, some ppl may disagree with them, but this is what I think you should do.
Edit: HPA is also more consistent than CO2 in more ranges of weather; Ie, doesn't shoot hotter in warm temps, or freeze up in cold temps. Also will not freeze up if you are firing rapidly, as CO2 will.
