i have a spyder sonix and currently lookin into gettn a new gun should i get a 98 custom or an A5? i play a little speed ball and a little of everything.

not very high. but my last weekend my spyder was shooting 278 288 then 20 mins later was 320 then shot 288 then few hours later was doing the same thing. i didnt ajust the psi all day. so i was just looking into a new gun. i would like one i could easly upgrade. and the a5 seemed to have a lot more upgrades.

Tippmanns are money pits. And the "upgrades" really won't make it shoot any better than it does out of the box. I'd say tear apart your spyder and clean everything. Put it back together and clean/lube the reg (if it has one). then shoot some paintball oil through the spyder. Your incosistency could be something as simple as orings sticking because they're dirty.

the only thing is i dont know much about painball guns. i will have the gun checked out at a repair shop. but my plans where to get a new tippman for some speed ball and woods play. but turn my spyder into a sniper. so thats why i wanted to know which i should get.

If you are looking to buy a new marker instead of learning the basics of taking care of your existing marker paintball is going to be a very expensive game for you. If you have your heart set on a Tippmann buy the 98C with the A5 you are paying extra for the Cyclone which is a bigger pain in the ass than it is worth.

Your velocity problems with your Spyder could be caused by a few simple things.
- dirty marker (strip it down and clean it)
- not enough oil (fire some air tool or paintball oil through it)
- air source (you running CO2 or HPA?)
- crappy paint
- poor paint to barrel match

All of which you will experience with a Tippmann. Turning your inconsistent Spyder into a "sniper" doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I know everyone says spyders are the way to go, but to answer your question, get a 98 custom. I have one and I love it. Yes there's alot of upgrades, yes only some of them affect how it shoots, but I like my 98 better than I liked my old spyder.

well i have had the spyder for about 6 months. and the whol time its been in the box other then test firing twice and playing last weekend. and i try to keep it clean as pssible but i need to learn how to take apart and clean my gun but i dont know how.what should i do to learn?

Just take it apart, look over all the pieces, then put it back together how it was. That's the best way to learn is by just doing it. Just remember how to put it back together.

tippmann fire man: i like my spyder. i would like to make it a sniper the only thing is no barrels match my spyders color. but have you used the A5?

i will try that but if i mess up can i get it repaired as long as i have all the part?

Yes my father has the A5. I really like it too, but you're paying twice as much for the cyclone feed. It's just not worth it.

Yes, as long as you have ALL the parts, they should be able to fix it in no time.

Cyclone feed is pretty much an electronic feed. It gives you the capability to fire faster. It supplies more paint. If your gun can fire 20bps but your hopper can only supply enough paint for 15bps, things aren't going to flow as easily. So it pretty much helps supply paint. Now, if you get the 98 custom, you can get a thing called a rip-clip. It's an electronic feed that you can take off by just unscrewing a screw. That's what I have and I like it better than the cyclone feed.

If your after upgrading defiantly don't go with a blowback much less a tippmann. If you give us a price range, we can better help you with what upgrades you can get. I had a 98 and wasn't a big fan of it, i would get one over an a5 (im not condoning getting one).

Except cyclone isn't electronic. It's a pneumaticly actuated feeding mechanism that runs off the co2, therefore making your marker even less efficient than it already was.

Well I didn't think about it being less efficient, miller. Also, I didn't say it was an electronic feed, I said it was pretty much one. Yes, it doesn't run off batterys but it works like an electronic feed. Just trying to make it as understandable and simple as I can.

well my range is only around 200 give or take. but i want the 98 but if the a5 is better then id take that. are 98 upgrades cheaper?

Are you using HPA or Co2? If you are using co2 and don't have the extra 100 for air tank then I would hold off and save up a few more bucks. If you don't wanna wait, you get a ICD promaster, w/asa new for 130.

im shootin co2 i have a 12 and 20 ounce tank. still hoping to make my spyder a sniper. so imm lookin for just a gun i can go and play woods, speedball, etc with some friends.
