You know I've always wondered, Why does this forum hate the G3 so much?
Everywhere else praises It for being cheap but reliable and almost equal to a higher end gun. The worst things I've heard about It Is that some of the reg seats break very easily, and the lever On/Off ASA shreds It's O Rings constantly.

Older batches were made with cast parts, and sometimes the eye cover screws would bend in the cast metal eye plates in far enough to tear bolt orings
Kicks super hard for a spool (not sure if they fixed that)
BAD efficiency
a bit too expensive for the performance IMO
Wouldn't that mean that the newer ones would be made a bit better?
That's a lot like the Mini, when It first came out It was horrible but now It's just a little different.
It's weird how there's a big gap of paintball gun's In the 300$ to 400$ range, I guess nothing can be made good at that price.

The mini was actully alright in the beginning though, all you had to do was send it in and get a new one that worked
G3 not so much
And their lasting bad first impression has stuck on some people (namely us PBF'ers)
i've seen some nice shooting G3's, but wouldn't risk getting one myself
Funny because It used to be 400$ then they quickly decreased It to 300$. I was just wondering because when I figure out what I'm going to do with my problem, I might get a new gun and around 300$ Is my price range.
So I guess the G3 Is out of the question, I do see a ton of people with Mini's at my field and they all happen to be little kid's. Is the Mini really that small that you have to have tiny hands? I've never actually held one.

Maybe I'm not the most unbiased person as my scenario team is sponsored by DP. But then again, they haven't given me anything personally. I bought a Threshy used, in fact, earlier this year.
So with that disclaimer noted, I will say that, throughout this past season, we had 5-10 DP markers at most scenario games (depending on turnout) and at the Pgh leg of the UWL, and honestly, not a single one has had any issues other than regular minor routine maintenance (clean, lube, fresh batteries, maybe an o-ring).
Of course efficiency isn't great; it's a spoolie - 1300-1400 from a 68/4500 is about average. The Threshy/Rev-i do a bit better with regard to efficiency, as do obviously the poppet-based F7/F8.
The guns really don't have much kick - a G3 kicking is generally an indicator of an HPR up too high or a user that needs his hand slapped away from the dwell settings when he doesn't know what he's doing. DP did replace the reg seat, too, for better performance and less vulnerability to user error. They will send the replacements out for free. The newer ones are red-colored, the old ones are gray.
Yes, the standard G3 was made with some cast parts. Other than being cast aluminum versus milled, I'm not sure what the problem is. If someone's putting enough torque on an eye cover for it to bend/crack, I think it's irrelevant whether it was cast or milled - the person is an idiot.
As for price, I guess that's subjective. I think it's very competitive at $300.
To continue my thoughts on DP markers, my only real gripe is that, other than the Rev-i, the boards are meh. Most have optical sensors that don't have the crispest trigger feel, and the dip-switch adjustments and lack of ability to reflash/reprogram/edit modes make the boards feel a bit dated. Reliability is good, but the boards are just standard fare otherwise.

Yeah but now you can get a G3 with a free Ape board, and they have a Virtue for It to. I'm not sure If It's already out yet but they also have the Virtue OLED for It, but that's sort of overcomplicated for a gun like that.
There are a ton of triggers for It to If I'm correct, the Virtue board with a CP trigger have been quite a popular choice.

Overkill to buy a $180 board for a $300 marker, yeah.
Though I might have to buy another Threshold for the Seventh Element board/trigger combo they released this month for $89. LOVED my Threshold; my only gripe was the board/optical trigger.

I just looked up that board and trigger combo, that's pretty cheap for the two. So you think for 350$ a Threshold Is much nicer than the G3? Or even the Mini?

While I'm not saying that the G3 is bad now, I do know that the first run was HORRIBLE
They may have upped the quality, but I just don't want to deal with the G3
Still get some random posts on PBN about someone's G3 not working, and I don't want to be another unlucky one
I would want to wait to see if the new g3 will be priced at the same price and any good. It has some neat features like a oringless bolt and a better board.

Yeah but the O Ringless Bolt Is sort of just extra and you can already get a free Ape board, what about a new and improved regulator though.

Everything's personal preference.
But with that said, I do prefer the Threshy over the G3. The couple extra ounces of metal is more than offset by what I find to be a smoother and more efficient platform.
one comment on the g3, i was out playing some woodsball with a few friends this weekend, one of the guys that showed up had a g3, to be honest i was not impressed with it at all, fairly loud and mechanical sounding, he also was having issues getting it shooting because of the cold humid weather, my mini on the other hand (first time i was shooting it) got it out, never had a problem all day.
just make sure its a gen 2 mini and thats that i would do (well did i guess)

Also better QC on the Threshy. The G3 was an anomoly for DP, a very poor performing, poorly engineered, poor QC'd marker.
