He's new DON'T buy a cocker try an get a 4x4 shocker or a used bko maybe a used impulse if your lucky. If you don't have a n2 tank than the shocker will work better, bko do not run good at all on co2 even if its siponed, so I would say try and get a shocker

shockers are pretty good anywhere you wanna play. Seeing your looking at an older shocker pre2k3 its gonna be a gas hog. Make sure you have a big enough tank to last you a while. Shockers are boxy but if you are comfortable with that its a good gun. The bko might be a better choice just because you can get a nice one or even new if you look hard. With a shocker it will be used and if you break it they can be trying to fix.

I would recomend not getting a cocker. They take a good sized amount of effort to keep running in good condition. Im going to look at it this way. If your idea of research was to ask in a new player straight up what style of marker to get then you haven't looked into it much on your own. With the cocker you will need to research its operation alot to know what your doing with it. Its not for the weak or those who wouldn't look into what they are doing. and even when you get it purring like you would want it....Its still not as fast as the bko or shocker. You need to put an etrigger on to get that kind of preformance.
