it's NOT a gun fr a person who'se just starting. you'll either screw it up on accident or learn nothing about it.

a vs1 is a MUCH better gun for starting out with. they're easy to disassemble, hard to break.
when you lube it, all you need to lube is the striker. NOT the bolt.

Agreed. Though the Ion is a reliable, lightweight, small and fast marker, but it can easily be broken by somebody who doesn't know how to properly maintain it.

i would suggest starting with a vs1 too many kids buy ions and pmrs and screw them up. play with the spyder untill u feel that it is holding you back then get a new gun.

i just got a new ion, maybe not the best decision as i'm reading yr comments. i didn;t have enough money for a pmr or mini so i got the ion with air and a halo b. after a hopper full, the batteries somehow died i assumed b/c the hopper stopped feeding. i think i recieved a used one b/c the manual was filled out. i'm getting a new one soon. in the mean time, i borrowed my friends halo and put new batteries in it(other ones were dead). Its the halo with a spinner underneath so u can spin it if the rip isn't working i guess. anyway i had to keep spinning it, in order for my gun to fire a ball. if i didn't wind it, i couldn't shoot anything. putting my halo b in was a struggle at first and i found out that there r 3 o rings in the feedneck. i broke the first one. then about 2 days ago after i had tried my hopper and my friends, my lil bro was an idiot and broke a second o ring of the 3 so now i only have 1 left. is this the reason why my halo isn't working? i'm getting my new halo in a day or two so i'll test it and i'll hope for the best. any tips for installing a body kit?

see?
this is why new players don't need nice things. they break them or assume they're broken because they dont' know any better.
could be any reason why your halo isnt' working. try new batteries. read the stickies int eh hopper section on pbnation.com, that's saved my butt a few times. Also remember that to turn it on, you only hold the button down a short time. to turn it off, hold it for 3 seconds or so.

The VS1 is probably the best marker out there for starters.
