I posted here a few months back. I've been slowly getting back into paintball recently, and would like to buy a marker for myself (tired of renting junk). I thought about just getting a real cheap Spyder Xtra or Sonix just so I could finally have my own gear again. But recently I've seen a few guys using Spyder Pilots and... I want one. I'm just a rec player, and not obsessed with BPS or all that jazz. My main thing is a reliable marker that I can go play with at a moments notice (and fixed easily when things go wrong). I've narrowed it down to two markers. The 08 Spyder Pilot w/ EYES, or the Spyder Pilot ACS. Aside from a little bit of money, is there a huge difference? I kinda like the look of the ACS over the new 08 Spyder.
tl:dr - Spyder Pilot 08 w/EYES or Spyder Pilot ACS?
Well, if you want something that really uses little to no maintenance, I'd look at the Spyder Xtra and Sonix again. Since they're mechanical, you will never have to cange a battery, there's no wiring to damage, no board to fry, and the thing will shoot every single time you pull the trigger.
If you want an electric gun, I'd recomend the Spyder VS1, since it's all metal and has eyes (The 08Pilot has a composite grip frame, and the Pilot ACS has no eyes).

Call me shallow, but I prefer the way the Pilot looks. The VS is also a little more expensive.
vs1 is too expensive? iv seen them for $100 at sportsmens warehouse
the vs1 is the best value out of all the markers mentioned
yes, ill agree that your shallow if you are getting a sypder based on looks

dude, word of advice, don't take looks over functionality. That applies to everything in life, including cars and women. Pay a little more and get the VS, you will not regret it.

I haven't been able to find any sites I'd trust with a VS1 for less then $150. I'm not getting a Spyder based on looks. I'm getting a Spyder on brand loyalty, and being familiar with their product. I'm leaning towards a gun that is in every way comparable to the VS1 (so far that I can see) because I like how it looks better.

So you're saying the VS1 is better than the Pilot series? If that's the case I'm not opposed to getting it. But on paper it doesn't seem to be any better or any worse than the Pilot ACS I'm looking at.
EDIT: Right after I posted this I found a site selling VS1's for $99.99. Sadly out of stock.
get on ebay right now, there are 3 ending within a day, 1 is at $90, and the other 2 are at $48 all are brand new in package

The VS1 uses break beam eyes as an anti-chop system. Eyes are far superior to any type of mechanical anti-chop system, since the mrker simply will not fire if there isn't a paintball fully loaded inside the breech. It also has a metal grip frame, unlike the 08 Pilots composite frame.
Well I ended up getting this little number here. It's an ACS with all the kit pictured. All told, it was about $130. I ended up deciding on the ACS and package because it was a good price, had solid performance for what it was, and heck I thought it looked good. I couldn't really find another gun in that price range with the same comparable performance.
Sorry to say, but everything in that kit besides the battery, marker, and squeegie, and tank is trash.
If you would have spent a little more money on the VS1, you would have bought a better deal, even if it was just the marker.
I don't think my intentions are getting through very well. I'm not a serious player any more. I'll probably never play in another tournament. I play at a local field that caters to Church groups and family events. There aren't any hardcore players, cause if there was I wouldn't play there. I'm just tired of borrowing my friends MR3 and having it break on me, or renting a totally thrashed Spyder Victor. Will the mask stop me from getting shot in the face? Will the Tank supply me at least enough CO2 to play at least one game (cause the field I play on gives free refills)? The pod carrier I could take or leave, but I may use it for +1 (which means I have to buy a remote coil). As of right now I'm pleased with my choice.

i think its a reliable gun. i got one last year and its been great. as long as you keep the stock battery in your in for some fun
I think you'll be needing a hopper and mask real soon. You'll be chopping like crazy with a gravity hopper. I've never used that mask but masks that come with guns tend to be really stuffy. I had that same spyder. I didn't like the trigger at all. It seemed too "hingy". Even after adjusting it, the trigger seems awkward. I've seen people put new boards and triggers in their spyders, I'm sure that could solve the problem. The gun is also quite loud.
Well since you already got it, let me give you a good advice. The ACS bolt system is actually working, but needs to be break in. Take out the bolt and compress the spring as much as you can, while talking to phone, watching tv, etc. Once the spring is break in, the ACS bolt will perform alot better, and really help preventing chop. I had one in 2004, and that's what I did.
If you have some money to spend, get a motorized hopper, such as VL eye force. They're fairly cheap, and performs really well. This will your best weapon against chops.
