New paintballer here. Is there a standout gun for playing woodsball only? I have $300-400 to spend on just the gun and I want to get the best gun I can for that money, considering all I will be doing is playing woodsball. Also, remember this is my first gun.
A lot of the time when people are looking for a "woodsball gun" they are looking for a mechanical marker. If you want a mech the answer will change but if you don't care than the VS1 is a great deal.
Accuracy is determined by the paint you use. Marker will have nothing to do with it.
Distance is determined by the speed you chrono at...since you're limited to 300 fps, all markers will be equal in that respect.
Power, I'm fairly certain the Spyders come with rechargeable 9.6v, so that trumps most 9v markers, and slaughters the power output of any mech.
Durability, for normal play, all quality markers are durable.
For under $300, since you've already said you're new and will be playing only woodsball, I would still recommend VS1.
on that kind of budget id go vs2 and avoid all the co2 problems, the marker is $20 more than the vs1 but it does require hpa, but thats also where your going to get the best advantage

Best woodsball marker out there is, IMHO, still the good ol' Tippman 98. It is a great marker for the money and you can't really kill it. If you want to 'upgrade' to something better, then the Spyders and the oodles of spyder clones will do just fine for you.
Now... if you want the most reliable, never fail you, simple to own and operate, all time best woodsball marker and are willing to drop some coin, then the Automag is for you. The best thing about a mag is that it can sit on a shelf for YEARS, and when you go to pull it out of the closet, all you need is a couple of drops of oil in the ASA and you are golden! The bad thing is that if you buy one, even used, you are looking at 4-5 bills for a good one.
and if you REALLY want a tank of a marker, you'll find a tippman 68-carbine. I recently picked one up for fun and wow...I think it'll outlast the world ending before it breaks.
I had the 68-carbine back when it was newly released. Sad to say, other than reliability going down, performance hasn't improved since the pro-lite days on Tippmanns.
I guess im only backed by a few here but i would personally go for a flatlined 98 with a sight lol. I had one like that back a year or so ago and it was sweet!
So if its for woodsball the gun is great and as with all tipps you can make it progressively better.
You can pick up a badass 98 off of ebay for cheap... I sold the one as mentioned earlier for only $120 when it was deff worth a whole lot more cuz it had a lot more upps than just that. :-/
But yeah i would start there and then deff take it to a shop to get looked at and get a tune up before you rock.

hope that helps.
Not so. Classic mags can be had in good condition (albeit bare bones stock) for $100. I'd say the automag is the way to go. You can pick up an upgraded Classic or a basic RetroValved mag for around $200 to $250 and spend the rest on a VLforce and an HPA tank. The real question is this: Where will you be playing? If you'll be at a field with access to AIR, then get the mag. If you'll be in your back yard, gest something that can run CO2.
The nice thing about the mag is that it will grow with you. At any time you can upgrade the same marker to get to whatever level of performance you need. (basic mech, fast mech, ridiculously fast pneumag, electro, emag lowers with eyes)
